“Considered one of the best zoos in the world, the Ueno Zoo was founded by the Minister of Agriculture in 1802. The Royal Imperial family took it over, but later gave it to the people of Tokyo in 1924. The zoo is located in the 31-acre Ueno Park, once the formal gardens of a feudal lord. The zoo contains over 813 species of birds and animals, including the increasingly rare China Panda Bear.”
Pamphlet, Mario is Missing! (PC)

The Ueno Zoo (Japanese: 恩賜上野動物園, Romaji: Onshi Ueno Dōbutsuen) is a zoo located in Tokyo, Japan. It appears in the PC version of Mario is Missing!, where a Koopa Troopa kidnaps Tong Tong, forcing the zoo to close until Luigi tracks her down. One of Tokyo's newspaper articles states that Ueno Zoo is serving as refuge for penguins displaced by Bowser's plan to melt Antarctica, after Taronga Zoo runs out of space for them.
