🇫🇷 The Paris Olympics set a goal to halve the carbon footprint of previous Olympic games in London and Rio. 🍳 Part of this goal included reducing the amount of animal protein served at the Olympic Village food hall. However, some athletes with specific diets have demanded increases in egg and meat offerings. 🥒 Still, many others have voiced appreciation for the wide variety of dishes centering vegetables and plant proteins. What do you think about Paris’s approach? Are you excited to see plant-rich dishes taking the world stage? Let us know!

Copenhagen is a case of success in being more planet-friendly, and here is how they did it 👇🏼 🔹The city of Copenhagen decided to take matters into their own hands and change (for the better!) the food served in their public kitchens. 🔹Every single day, the city's kitchens serve 70,000 meals to children, the elderly, and socially vulnerable people. 🔹The city has reduced the number of meals with meat on its menu, leading to a 52% reduction in purchases of beef and lamb and a 20% reduction in pork. 🔹 By adopting a new mindset and menu, Copenhagen has significantly reduced its emissions! The city set a target to cut food procurement emissions by 25% by 2025, a goal it accomplished in 2024. 🔹 The city joined the Coolfood pledge in 2019. Coolfood is the World Resources Institute’s initiative to curb diet-related greenhouse gas emissions. 🎉 The transition to mostly plant-based meals in Copenhagen benefits the environment and promotes healthier eating habits. Are you ready to try it at home? By incorporating vegetables, legumes, and green protein sources, you can enjoy the benefits of a nutritious and balanced diet and the future generation will thank you. #SustainableFood #WRI #Europe #Vegetarian #Vegan #PlantBased

🥕 Restaurants and food service providers have the potential to lead the fight in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the hospitality sector. Today at London Climate Action Week, we partnered with The Food Foundation and The Sustainable Restaurant Association to talk about about opportunities to bring this potential to life! (Head of Coolfood, Edwina Hughes gives you the highlights 👇 )

Let’s Transform the World One Meal at a Time!! Today at the London Climate Action Week, we hosted a transformative Coolfood breakfast with partners of the The Food Foundation and The Sustainable Restaurant Association. Restaurants and other food service providers came together to discuss innovative strategies for reducing climate emissions in the food and hospitality sector. Juliane Caillouette Noble, from the Sustainable Restaurant Association, brought great discussion points: 🟢 Climate change affects restaurant supply chains; we have to plan for that. 🟢The food chain, from farm to fork, is responsible for a quarter of emissions. 🟢No road to net zero bypasses restaurants and food systems. 🟢Scope 3 emissions account for 90% of food service business emissions. And Chloe MacKean, Business Engagement Manager at The Food Foundation, highlighted key elements: 🟢Focus on the health and nutrition of sustainable foods, not just processed alternatives. 🟢Targets need to be set, ideally sales-based, to drive meaningful change. Edwina Hughes, Head of Cool Food at WRI Food, finished with ways to make the change that is needed to happen: 🟢Food is a critical pillar of climate action. 🟢CoolFood promotes positive change through dietary shifts. 🟢The CoolFood Playbook offers guidance based on behavioural science to help food businesses. 🟢Consumers make food decisions in seconds; we must make sustainable choices easier. 🟢73% of UK consumers believe adopting sustainable foods is urgent.
