Annual Trends Conference - New Speaker Announcement! "What Comes Next: Navigating the Post-Election Economy" Nowhere were the impacts from the pandemic and surge in inflation and interest rates felt more acutely than in the real estate industry. While prices surged for single-family homes, demand for office space plummeted. Then, expansionary fiscal policy unleashed a torrent of inflation that forced the Federal Reserve to push borrowing costs to a multi-decade high, creating the least affordable housing market in a generation. Inflationary pressures appear to be easing, and the Fed is asking when to lower rates, not if. Those factors would seem to argue that perhaps we’re headed towards a period of stability. That is a dangerous bet. The same underlying forces that reshaped both the commercial and residential real estate industries overnight are still playing out daily in our economy. Yesterday, nearly 50 attendees gathered in downtown Salt Lake City for a "Walkable Wednesday" tour of The Worthington Residences.   The Worthington is best described by the word "abundance," centering around its extensive amenities and hotel-style services. Currently the tallest residential building in Utah, it has brought almost 400 luxury apartment units online. In its first few months on the market, occupancy consists predominately of young professionals who are moving to Salt Lake to work and play.   We were impressed by the project's amenities and extraordinary floor to ceiling windows showcasing a rainy downtown!   A huge thank you to Greystar for welcoming us and thank you to our YLG Committee Member, Austin Taylor, for helping to organize this event and working crowd control! #ULI #ULIUtah

The electrification of vehicles and its necessary infrastructure is a complex topic, given its technological novelty, high demand, and substantial funding requirements. Yesterday, experts in planning, funding, and implementing EV charging infrastructure shed light on the resources available to make deployment possible. We are incredibly grateful for our speakers, all of whom are at the forefront of market research and installation.
