What started as a conversation with Ahmed Ali Bob about how we can support our community of laid-off workers, small businesses, and residents led to a conversation with Christie Chung, Ph.D. about the challenges students, faculty, and organizations face in the age of AI. These preliminary conversations resulted in a partnership with The Mills Institute, the Institute for Experiential AI at Northeastern University, Khoury College of Computer Sciences and Nikki Lowy which led to the creation of a Responsible AI Series. This five-part series consists of unique events that connect industry leaders with Northeastern University researchers with the goal of co-creating a movement that advances equity through AI innovations and produces a diverse talent pipeline and entrepreneurs who are ready for our fast-changing world. We hosted two Executive AI Roundtable Dinners for Bay Area CEOs and top leaders from a range of sectors including non-profits and are grateful for their thoughtful contributions to a rich discussion. Leaders toured our gorgeous campus while learning about our unique institution. Big thanks to all my network colleagues Usama Fayyad Ricardo Baeza-Yates Cansu Canca, Ph.D. Alvaro Monge Bethany Edmunds Hamit Hamutchu and the Oakland campus team who worked tirelessly to execute these roundtables Karimah Omer, MBA Alex Cammett, MS, PMP @Jennifer Arthur, Alexander Zendzian Annie Labe Nikole Wilson-Ripsom. Thanks to our Executive in Residence Alexandra (Ally) Legend Siegel for her continuous support for our community and equality at large.

In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we highlight the remarkable accomplishments of Christie Chung, Ph.D. Chung. As the Executive Director of The Mills Institute and a Professor of Psychology at Northeastern University - Oakland, Dr. Chung exemplifies leadership and dedication to service. Her journey is a testament to the impact of representation and advocacy in higher education. "Service above self has always been my guiding principle and I view each career role as an opportunity to serve and make an impact. With Asian women holding less than 0.6% of executive positions in higher education, I am often the only Asian woman in leadership meetings and in the board room. I know my unique perspective is crucial and I embrace this opportunity to represent and advocate. I am dedicated to uplifting and empowering the next generation of diverse leaders." - Dr. Christie Chung She is a nominee for this year's prestigious Chang Lin-Tien Leadership in Education Award. The only program of its kind in the nation, the award honors an AANHPI individual who has achieved significant academic accomplishments and demonstrates the potential to advance to the highest leadership levels in higher education. 💗 Transformational core values drive success. Thoughout all the positions I’ve held in higher education, my mission has always been about student success, uplifting future leaders, and inspiring new innovations for future generations. It’s been a life-changing year leading The Mills Institute, especially because of our success in fostering growth in so many students through impactful programs such as the Russell Women in Science Leadership Program and the Hellman Experiential Science Program. I was blown away by our students’ creativity, passion, and transformation through designing research projects and real-life solutions with deep social impact and immediate implications. Our future is in the hands of these emerging leaders and it’s been a humbling experience creating a space for them to flourish and to tackle the hardest issues in our society. Congratulations, Russell and Hellman scholars and mentors! Our world is a better place because of you 💓!
