Welcome to Industry 5.0 -- The Age of Personalization. In this article Ujjwal Kumar demystifies the what and why of the successive phases of Industrial transformation -- Industry 1.0 all the way to 5.0.
#Manufacturing is stuck in “Industry 3.0” mindset. That’s what I suggested in my previous post (check it out in the comments). I stand by the fact this is the reality, but let’s consider for a moment, the changes that have happened from Industry 1.0 to where we are now, at Industry 5.0. Looking back might even help us to predict the next wave of changes. 1.0: The Steam Age Dawns (Late 18th Century) - We transitioned from scattered workshops to centralized, mechanized factories powered by steam. This era saw the rise of mechanization, forever altering production speed and scale. With speed and scale comes an increase in manufacturing capacity. 2.0: Assembly Lines Roll In (Late 19th to Early 20th Century) - Electricity, telephones, and the invention of the car brought about mass production. The assembly line became king, driven by economies of scale and standardized products, meaning manufacturing could become more affordable. 3.0: Computers Take the Wheel (Late 20th Century) - Industrial robots, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and electronic control systems ushered in computerization and automation. This era focused on efficiency and consistency, to allow businesses to create products with a consistent quality without taking any longer. 4.0: The Digital Revolution Arrives (Late 20th Century - Present) - #BigData, analytics, #IoT, #AR, #VR, and #AI transformed the landscape. #Digitalization revolutionized information flow and led to further automation and optimization. Both of these provide value to manufacturers by reducing costs and further improving the process. 5.0: The Age of Personalization (today and into the future) - Enter high-variability, even mass personalization! #Cobots are blurring the lines between mass production and customized products. This change is just beginning to take hold and it's quite exciting! I can't wait to see how it unfolds. The future of manufacturing is exciting, with human ingenuity intertwined with intelligent machines. What do you think is next on this ever-evolving story? #Industry50 #FutureOfManufacturing #IndustryTransformation
