To advance and serve the structural engineering profession.
About us
The Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) was established on October 1, 1996, in order to serve the unique needs of the structural engineering community while influencing change on the broader issues shaping the entire civil engineering community. SEI is a vibrant community of more than 30,000 structural engineers within the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). SEI involves all facets of the structural engineering community including practicing engineers, students, research scientists, academics, technologists, material suppliers, contractors, and owners. SEI is committed to advancing and serving the structural engineering profession while influencing change on broader issues that shape the entire civil engineering community. Because SEI members are leaders in structural engineering practice and academia, SEI provides great networking opportunities while stimulating coordination and understanding between academia and practicing engineers — driving the practical application of cutting edge research. SEI produces technical publications, journals, conferences, continuing education, codes and standards, and professional practice documents that advance the structural engineering profession. SEI advances our members' careers, stimulates technological advancement, and improves professional practice.

🌉🔩 Technical Note Spotlight 🔩🌉 This week, we turn our attention to a Bridge Engineering study titled "Static Push-Out Tests on 29 mm Diameter Shear Studs." This technical paper, authored by a team of esteemed researchers including Xianjue Deng, Michael Engelhardt, Todd Helwig, Eric Williamson, Lu Wan, and Yucel Alp, explores the benefits of incorporating more oversized, 29 mm-diameter shear studs in the construction of composite steel bridges. By conducting 11 push-out tests, the study evaluates these studs' static strength and compliance with US bridge design standards. The findings suggest that the larger-diameter studs meet the required specifications and offer comparable or better ductility than the commonly used 22 mm-diameter studs. 🔗 Learn more about this research here: https://lnkd.in/ebDNu7wy 📖 Read the full paper in the Journal of Bridge Engineering: https://lnkd.in/es7kGReu Sriram Narasimhan, SEI - Structural Engineering Institute #BridgeEngineering #StructuralEngineering #CompositeAction #ShearStuds #ConstructionInnovation #Infrastructure #CivilEngineering #ResearchHighlight
