Practical chemistry activities are an essential part of an inspiring, engaging and relevant chemistry education. However, our research has found that teachers are facing many barriers which are hampering their efforts to run practical chemistry activities within the science classroom: - Insufficient time for practical work to be taught alongside theory (60%) - Challenging student behaviour (51%) - Cost of consumables and chemicals (37%) and a lack of equipment (35%) - Having no time for training or practising (31%) - Understaffing of science technicians (27%) Read our opinion piece to find out more about what the Royal Society of Chemistry are doing to tackle these issues. We're thrilled the American Chemical Society recently celebrated the work of CERP's founding editor, Georgios Tsaparlis. Georgios won an ACS award for achievement in research for the teaching and learning of chemistry. Celebrating Georgios's work was his successor as CERP editor, Keith Taber, who describe how he and the team built on the original vision for CERP.
