While volunteering in and working professionally with churches over the last 20 years, I've observed a lot of trends and similarities across churches of different denominations, size, geography, style, and demographics. One that stands out to me is the willingness to disciple on certain matters and leave others to be outsourced to the world. Consider money as an example. Many pastors feel inadequate when it comes to teaching and leading on this topic. I get it. How many of us learned how to budget in high school? Not me. And how many pastors learned how to run a church budget in seminary? Not many. So, it's natural for pastors to feel a few steps behind when they plant a church or are placed over a congregation and one of their first items of responsibility is to create or preside over an annual budget. It's actually quite unfair. When it comes to gaps of knowledge or insecurities most of us naturally try to find someone with knowledge or expertise. Pastors are no different. They just typically go to God's Word to inform these gaps or insecurities - except with money. Why does the money topic get a hall pass? Why does this topic not get a Biblical interrogation? This world is not short of institutions that are ready to "educate" people on how to handle finances - and we're letting them influence the Bride. When the Church outsources a topic the Bible has spoken on over 2,000 times to the world, we should not be surprised when our congregations are not living in the freedom and blessings that come from obedience to Biblical instruction. I am encouraged, though, by the thousands of churches I've personally seen embrace teaching and leading on this topic with Biblical authority and confidence. The Bible is clear about the importance of managing and giving. It is clear on avoiding certain dangers as they represent deeper heart matters. We cannot separate the treasure topic from the heart topic. Money is no doubt a tough one to tackle, but it's crucial in developing mature disciples. If your church is done with outsourcing the topic of money and is ready to equip it's people with practical, Biblical teaching and tools, contact a Financial Peace Church Advisor today: https://bit.ly/3R3vA0Q

Habits are essential for doing anything that changes who you are. The first is to change your mindset. When I am coaching someone about habits the conversation usually has the phrase " I know what to do" in it. Let's test the theory of "I know what to do" - If I asked 100 Americans how do I lose weight 9/10 would say eat less and workout more. Good answer except the fact that 8/10 are either overweight, obese, or severely obese. - If I asked 100 Americans how do I stop living paycheck to paycheck 9/10 would say make more money and spend less. Good answer except the fact that 7/10 people live paycheck to paycheck. To know what to do, and to not do it, is to not know. Habits on the other hand are generally the things that make you uncomfortable. For instance. If you want to lose weight: weigh yourself everyday, track every piece of food that goes into your mouth, and walk for 30 minutes everyday. Watch what happens in 90 days. If you want to stop living paycheck to paycheck: make a budget for December today, tract every transaction in December against the budget you set, save $1,000 by December 1st (each day you will need to determine how you will make this money https://lnkd.in/ga4Neh7f ). Watch what happens in 90 days, you will build great money habits in Q1 of 2024. That is the difference between "i know what to do" and building in daily habits. #motivationalmonday #habitstacking #coachingtips
