About us

Project DESI is an initiative by Enactus Motilal Nehru College, set up in 2014, to improve the deplorable state of dogs and to eradicate rabies.DESI, in this model, stands for Duty to Empathize, Sterilize and Immunize stray dogs. It aims to conduct sterilization and vaccination drives along with creating awareness about animal welfare in different parts of Delhi - NCR. As suggested by the WHO, Spaying, and Neutering is considered the most humane way to reduce the number of homeless dogs on the streets. Vaccination helps in reducing the risks of dog-bite-related diseases like Rabies etc. As a part of this project, we also provide a sustainable source of income to freelance drivers and underprivileged women by requiring them to contribute to the growth of our projects in different ways. So far, as a consequence of our team members' efforts, we have improved the life and health conditions of over 1100 dogs.

The Impact of noise pollution and air pollution on dogs. "Shush the noise, save their joy.” Noise and air pollution can have significant adverse effects on dog's health and well-being. Noise pollution, such as loud traffic, construction, or fireworks, can lead to stress and anxiety in dogs. Prolonged exposure to noise can even cause hearing damage, especially if it reaches high decibel levels. This stress may manifest in behavioural changes like increased barking, aggression, or withdrawal. Air pollution, on the other hand, introduces a variety of health risks for dogs. Poor air quality due to pollutants like particulate matter, smog, and toxins can lead to respiratory issues such as coughing, sneezing, and exacerbation of preexisting conditions like asthma. Long-term exposure can even contribute to chronic respiratory diseases. During the Diwali festival in India, stray dogs face unique challenges related to noise and air pollution. The widespread use of fireworks during this time can intensify their stress and anxiety. The loud and sudden bursts of fireworks can startle and disorient these dogs, leading to heightened fear and agitation. Additionally, the poor air quality resulting from the smoke and pollutants released by fireworks can exacerbate respiratory problems in stray dogs, many of whom already face challenging living conditions. In embracing these measures and fostering a collective commitment to the well-being of street dogs, we not only protect our loyal companions but also exemplify the compassion that defines a caring society. By acknowledging their presence, we find an opportunity to create a more harmonious world where both humans and our four-legged friends can coexist with comfort and joy. 😊🐶 #safefesitiveseason #healtyliving #projectdesi #nafrathataodesiapnao #enactus #enactusmlnc #enactusindia

Spread Love, Not Fear: How Small Gestures Can Make a Big Difference for Stray Dogs During the Festive Season The festive season in India is approaching and it is a time of joy, celebration, and togetherness. As we reunite with our friends and families to celebrate the festivities, it's important to remember that our four-legged friends, especially stray dogs, might not share the same enthusiasm. Fireworks, loud music, and crowds can be frightening and distressing for these animals. In this post, we'll explore the precautions you can take to ensure the well-being of stray dogs during the festive season. 1. Create Safe Spaces: Setting up safe spaces in your neighborhood for stray dogs can provide them with a refuge from the noise and commotion. Identify quiet, sheltered spots and provide blankets or cardboard boxes to create safe, comfortable hideaways for these animals. 2. Feed and Hydrate: Ensure that stray dogs have access to nourishing food and clean water to keep their bellies full and throats quenched. 3. Avoid Fireworks: While we take pleasure in burning firecrackers, their noise can be terrifying for dogs. Making an effort to limit or avoid fireworks, or opt for quieter, more animal-friendly alternatives can prove to be really helpful for them. 4. Pet-Friendly Diwali: During Diwali, the festival of lights, light diyas (oil lamps) instead of firecrackers. Diyas create a warm, peaceful ambiance and are much less stressful for dogs and other animals. 5. Secure Garbage Bins: Garbage bins can be a source of food for stray dogs, but during the festive season, they may contain hazardous materials or leftovers from celebrations. Make sure that bins are secure, and garbage is disposed of properly. 6. Keep an Eye Out: Be vigilant and keep an eye out for any distressed or injured stray dogs. If you come across a dog in need, contact your local animal welfare organizations or veterinarians. 7. Be Cautious with Sweets: Keep sweets and food items out of reach of stray dogs, as many festive delicacies can be harmful to them. 8. Educate Others: Spread awareness about the importance of taking precautions for stray dogs during the festive season. Encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to follow these guidelines and be considerate of the animals. Conclusion: The festive season in India is a time to celebrate and come together with loved ones. By taking these precautions and showing empathy towards stray dogs, you can make a positive impact on their well-being. Let's spread love and compassion, ensuring that everyone, including our furry friends, enjoys a safe and joyous festive season.

ADOPTING A DOG IS A REWARDING EXPERIENCE, but it comes with responsibilities. The steps don't end when you finally choose to adopt a dog, the journey actually begins after that. Ever Heard about the "3-3-3 rule" of Rescue and Adoption?? The "3-3-3 rule" is a fundamental guideline when it comes to adopting or rescuing a dog. This rule is a valuable framework to help both the dog and the owner navigate the challenging initial stages of their journey together. This rule can be broken down into three distinct periods, each representing a phase in the process of acclimating a newly adopted or rescued dog to their new home. The First 3 Days: This period is often referred to as the "honeymoon phase." During the initial three days, the dog may exhibit behaviors that are not truly indicative of their long-term temperament. They may be anxious, reserved, or overly cautious as they adjust to their unfamiliar surroundings. It's important for the owner to recognize that the dog is in a state of transition and not to rush the process. Providing a calm, structured environment with clear routines can help the dog feel more at ease. The First 3 Weeks: The next phase, lasting approximately three weeks, is a critical period where the dog and the owner begin to establish a routine and form a deeper bond. It's during this time that the dog may start to reveal its true personality and behavior. Some challenges or behavioral issues might surface as the dog becomes more comfortable. Consistent training and positive reinforcement are essential during this phase. Owners should be patient and understanding, addressing any issues that arise while also fostering trust and security. The First 3 Months: The final phase of the "3-3-3 rule" encompasses the first three months of the dog's new life. By this point, the dog should be fully integrated into the household and its routine. The owner should have a better understanding of the dog's personality, needs, and quirks. The dog, in turn, should feel more confident and secure in its new home. While many dogs will have adapted well by this stage, it's crucial for the owner to remain committed to ongoing training, socialization, and care. In conclusion, the 333 Rule of Rescue and Adoption reminds us that when it comes to saving lives, we face a tough choice. The Rule of Rescue pushes us to help those in immediate danger, like saving someone drowning. But Adoption encourages us to think long-term, like providing stable homes for many over time. Balancing these ideas is crucial. We should save lives urgently, but also plan for the future, ensuring both immediate and lasting care for those in need of rescue and adoption. #enactus #enactusmlnc #enactusindia #projectDESI

UNLOCK A WORLD OF LOVE AND SECOND CHANCES - that’s why you should rescue and adopt !! Why rescue and adoption? Because every life deserves a chance to be loved and cherished! Your help will break the cycle of pet overpopulation! It's not just about saving lives; it's about the incredible bond you build with a furry friend who becomes family. Did you know that foster families for animals are often called ‘pawsite influencers’ because they play a crucial role in helping these pets find their forever homes? Let’s discuss! 🐶 1. Choosing a substantial way of life When you rescue or adopt, we do not just bring home a furry companion, we are giving a second chance to a homeless or abandoned dog. Our choice saves not just one, but two lives—the one we adopt and the one who takes their place at the shelter. 2. Considering Economical Alternative Adopting a pet is frequently less expensive than buying a pet. This cost cutting technique allows you to put your money where it counts - on building a comfortable and welcoming home for your new furry friend. 3. Fostering community Rescue and adoption isn't just about animals; it's about fostering a sense of community. It brings together people who share a common goal - to create a safer, more loving world for our furry friends. 4. Creation of aggregate influence Beyond the personal rewards, our decision has a global impact. It reduces the demand for commercial breeding and helps combat the issue of pet overpopulation. 5. You won’t be supporting backyard breeders Many dogs are forced to breed as often as possible and kept under cruel conditions in puppy farms. By choosing to adopt, you are avoiding these organisations and supporting animal welfare in the process. Together, we can inspire change and create a world where every animal gets the love and care it deserves. Let’s not make choices, Let’s make differences! #enactus #enactusindia #projectdesi #enactusmlnc #adoption #savelives

India is a land of diversity, and this diversity extends to our furry companions as well. While Breed dogs have long been popular among pet enthusiasts, there's a growing trend towards adopting indie dogs. Also known as Indian Pariah dogs or street dogs, these unique canines are capturing the hearts of many. So Now we let you folks know why YOU SHOULD choose an indie over a breed/mix breed dog:- - Adaptability to Local Conditions: One of the most compelling reasons to choose an indie dog is their remarkable adaptability to Indian climate and living conditions. These dogs have evolved over centuries to thrive in the diverse environmental challenges of India, making them well-suited to our country's varied landscapes and weather. - Resilience and Health: Indie dogs are known for their robust health and resilience. They have developed strong immune systems through natural selection, making them less susceptible to certain diseases that can affect breed ones. - Lower Maintenance: Indie dogs are low-maintenance pets. Their short coats require minimal grooming, and they are generally less prone to skin issues. This makes them a practical choice for busy individuals or families who may not have the time for extensive grooming routines. - Adoption and Rescue: By choosing an indie dog, you are giving a homeless or abandoned dog a chance at a better life. There are countless indie dogs in India's streets and shelters waiting for loving homes. By adopting, you not only gain a companion but also contribute to reducing the stray dog population. - Lower Risk of Overbreeding: By choosing an Indie dog, you're not contributing to the overbreeding problem that plagues some purebred dogs, which often leads to the suffering of animals. #projectdesi #enactus #enactusmlnc #enactusindia #adoption #indieadoption
