Conducting restoration activities on the ocean requires people to live and work on a ship for weeks or even months at a time. Ever wonder how this unique life differs from life on land? Join folks LIVE on the C-Innovation M/V Island Intervention in the Gulf of Mexico to learn more about the fascinating routines and unusual experiences of humans living at sea. Science serving coastal communities
About us
The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science was formed in 1999 as the focal point for NOAA’s coastal ocean science efforts. We help NOAA meet its coastal stewardship and management responsibilities, and we provide coastal managers with the scientific information necessary to decide how best to protect environmental resources and public health, preserve valued habitats, and improve the way communities interact with coastal ecosystems. Our work includes: -Coastal Change: Vulnerability, Mitigation, and Restoration -Marine Spatial Ecology -Social Science -Stressor Impacts and Mitigation

To help bridge the gap between researchers, resource managers, and other end users, the #NOAARESTORE Science Program and partners hosted a two-day workshop in St. Petersburg, Florida. The workshop gathered individuals from across the state to learn about science co-production and discuss best practices to improve science for natural resource management in Florida. https://lnkd.in/eUZdCew2

👏 👏 👏 Great job on this amazing accomplishment!
Let us cheers this amazing achievement! HARRNESS 2024-2034 The science strategy was created by a 26-member Scientific Steering Committee, with additional input from 35 contributors and reviewers from academia, federal and state agencies, institutions, industry, the non-profit sector, consulting firms, and tribal organizations. The new report replaces the outdated, but successful, initial report, HARRNESS 2005 – 2015. https://lnkd.in/gPXTtYGi

NCCOS and partners developed the first antibiotic paste to successfully treat hard corals affected by Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease. The team's success prompted wider-scale development of a topical antibiotic paste that could be applied to SCTLD-infected corals in the wild. The resulting product is now being used on over 20 coral species throughout the region to save colonies infected with stony coral tissue loss disease. During summer 2022, a massive harmful algal bloom was detected as it moved through the Bering Strait region, far exceeding any events reported previously in Arctic waters. This unprecedented risk to the remote coastal communities of the region was communicated in near real time, providing the opportunity for rapid mobilization and establishing a framework for future event response. https://lnkd.in/eKjXN566 #HarmfulAlgalBloom #BeringStrait
