🌟 A Night of Gratitude! 🌟 What an unforgettable evening at the Gulliver Final! Our hearts are brimming with gratitude for everyone who contributed to making it an extraordinary event. First and foremost, a massive thank you to our sponsors—your support made this evening possible, and we are deeply grateful for your commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Congratulations to Juvoly, whose exceptional pitch and promising business prospects earned them the well-deserved 10,000 euros prize. Your dedication and innovation truly shone, inspiring us all. Kudos to AlphaPace for securing 2,500 euros for the Life Science Awards, thanks to their groundbreaking work in radiopharmaceuticals. A special shout-out to BioPartner Leiden for sponsoring this award and being a key part of driving progress in this vital field. A round of applause for Floris van Rijn with TilapAI, the wildcard entry to the NL MOONSHOTS '24, paving the way for transformative changes in the fish farming industry. Your vision and ambition are truly commendable! A heartfelt thanks to CupHub for their enthusiasm, great team spirit, and impressive market research. You left an indelible mark on the judges and showcased the power of dedication and thorough preparation. Just the best entrepreneurship crowd at Gulliver yesterday. Glad to see (high-)tech entrepreneurship from the Holland region coming together so spectacularly. Big congrats to Fleur van Eeden and the team for organising! I was also privileged to hand out the NL MOONSHOTS '24 wildcard to Tilap AI's Floris van Rijn. TilapAI is building disease detection systems for tilapia farmers to secure this essential global food source. With this wildcard, they can join an innovation journey of a lifetime with the help from 100 Astronauts from the Association of Space Explorers (which is just the coolest association I've heard of). Congratulations to the teams that brought the checks home! Juvoly (Winner) & AlphaPace (Life Science award). Yesterday, I had the honor to challenge and inspire a group of talented and highly engaged students to 'think bigger than ever' at the NL MOONSHOTS '24 event at European Space Agency - ESA in Noordwijk. My message: if you want to explore the unthinkable, you'll have to unthink. And we did. Ferociously. I was deeply impressed by the boldness, creativity, energy and instant collaboration to co-create a new reality together. Loved it. Thank you Lucien Geelhoed and Marjo Buijs for the invitation and the best designed and organized co-creation event I have seen yet.

On the 9th of February I experienced the amazing kick-off of the NL MOONSHOTS '24 programme together with Jondar Hoenselaar and Colin Olbertz as team 61. Project #StarLight is one of the many projects we share. As Jondar explains, our idea is to develop a satellite that can remove #orbital debris using a laser. We are looking forward to the continuation of this project and hopefully presenting our idea ASE #planetary #congress 2024.
250 #motivated #students, 100 teams, and more than 50 #experts covering topics from #business to #science, from #journalism to #engineering. An inspiring kick-off to remember! Yesterday, the 9th of February, was the kick-off of NL MOONSHOTS '24, a programme challenging 100 teams of students to think big and develop their crazy out-of-the-box ideas related to #space. The teams gathered at ESA/ESTEC to get inspired, meet with experts and astronauts, and get to know each other. So too did we: Timo van Spelden, Colin Olbertz, and I. We finally get to announce our participation with project #StarLight! Project StarLight aims to present a solution for the growing problem of orbital #debris. This debris poses a threat to the future of #spaceflight and #exploration, as well as our current use of any space related #technologies. Think of weather predictions, communication, as well as national and international security. At orbital velocity, space debris of large enough size hitting other objects will result in catastrophic breakups resulting in more debris. This debris will then have the potential to hit even more objects, eventually resulting in a virtual cage of debris circling the Earth. This silent threat, commonly known as the #Kessler Syndrome, could effectively make the Earth a near-inescapable prison. Using a strong laser placed in orbit StarLight would aim to slow down debris, thereby aiding in the safe removal of the debris. Over the upcoming months we will research the various technologies involved, study the feasibility, and devise concepts. Eventually we aim to pitch our moonshot at the ASE #planetary #congress 2024! Yesterday this journey officially started, when we met with experts such as Erik Kuulkers, Dick Harms, and Jutta Krause, as well as received lectures from, amongst others, Alexandra Sokolowski, Fanta Voogd, Angelique Van Ombergen and of course astronauts André Kuipers and Andreas Mogensen. Lastly, it wouldn’t be fitting not to mention part of the inspiration. My work on Natalia Gorina’s project #Astra #Ianua during the LDE NL Space Campus Summer School 2023 inspired the pursuit for a more permanent technical solution.

😜 #mbo #studenten #docentzijnisleuk

What a great experience facilitating sessions last week at European Space Agency - ESA for NL MOONSHOTS '24! 250 students gathered at this inspiring location. Surrounded by satellites, rockets and a lot of other space technology, in smaller teams they worked on big, crazy moonshot ideas. One of the ambassadors of this program is famous Dutch astronaut André Kuipers. I had the privilege to run a 2-hour workshop to help teams find their big idea which they could improve during the day by talking to a wide range of experts. In the afternoon I ran a pressure cooker session challenging them to kill their idea... (and to then improve it based on their findings). This day was the kick-off for a longer journey for the participants which will keep them busy until October this year. Thank you NL Moonshots '24 team for having me! A special thanks to Lucien Geelhoed for inviting and trusting me to run these sessions and to Marjo Buijs and Evelien Claassen and the rest of the team for all the preparation work and 'running the show'. #moonshot #thingbiggerthenever #creativity
