The Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Washington Transportation Department played a crucial role in the success of the 2024 Maryland Fleet Week and Flyover Baltimore. The department executed more than 50 bus operations to safely transport more than 2,000 personnel to various events and locations at the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, North Locust Point, and Martin State Airport, Baltimore, June 12-18.

Attendees gained valuable insights into the department's activities and priorities. The day concluded with a visit to the North Severn Complex and a tour of the climate resiliency project to repair the Yard Patrol (YP) Pier. We are proud to celebrate with Lt. Grayson West who was awarded his second Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. NAVFAC Washington Commanding Officer, Capt. Omarr Tobias presented West with the award for his exceptional service as the CAT III/IV Branch Head and Asst. Public Works Officer at PWD Washington from 2021-2024. He managed 215 facilities and supported 23,000 personnel. His leadership in facility management and construction enabled cutting-edge research at Naval Research Lab, to promote technological edge advancement. Well done, Lt. NAVFAC Washington has taken a leap forward in technological efficiency with the implementation of the Microsoft Surface Pro 9. Under a pilot program, 25 devices were distributed throughout the various Facilities Engineering Command Washington locations. The objectives, through a partnership between Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) and Command Information Office (CIO), are to revolutionize mission capabilities in both the field and office environments, enhance productivity and streamline workflows.

James Thompson, deputy public works officer, was the guest speaker at the first Leadership Partnership Group all-hands discussion at NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic PWD Portsmouth. James shared his experience of transitioning from AC Apprentice to DPWO at NAVFAC Washington and offered his perspective on the steps needed to achieve both personal and professional ambitions. “I want to express my gratitude to the PWD Portsmouth team for giving me the chance to observe their outstanding daily work and the opportunity to engage with the team.
