Oooohhhh good one 🤩
When you are in a leadership position, you have been given a great privilege. As such, you must always remember that your actions and decisions have the potential to influence not only the trajectory of people's careers but also their entire lives. As a leader, you have the ability to inspire and motivate your team, set an example for how work should be done, and guide individuals toward success. However, with this power comes great responsibility. It is crucial that you lead with fairness, empathy, and integrity, keeping in mind the impact of your leadership on those around you. Being a good leader is not just about achieving goals and hitting targets; it is about creating a positive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. This one goes back to the old passage “Seek first to understand, than to be understood”. Great reminder as we prepare to start a new week!
No one will ever have all the right answers, and ultimately, having diverse people and views on your team will help you make better decisions as a leader. Building a team with conflicting world views or even differing opinions of your industry will push you to think critically – even more so than you may have in the past. If you want to build a great company, permit your team to disagree with you and listen to all their feedback because it's not about you; it's all about providing the best possible service and products that make a difference in the lives of the people you are entrusted to serve. How was this only two weeks ago!?! Volunteer leadership - it’s a gift that helps us grow as people, as leaders and as professionals. 🤩Thank you to all who participated and embraced the sessions. Be sure you take what you learned back to your chapters board meetings!
NABIP’s Leadership Forum today was a dynamic and engaging event that brought together chapter leaders for a day of insightful discussions, collaborative networking, and skill-building sessions. The forum offered a platform for sharing experiences and gaining fresh perspectives to elevate leadership journeys. The day began with opening remarks from the AMAZING Dawn McFarland (she/her/hers), Leadership Committee Chair. Participants received updates on leadership developments and were inspired by Eric Kohlsdorf, NABIP President, during his address. The afternoon featured a compelling DEI&B Panel moderated by Stephanie (Records)Sharpless, HSAe, with panelists NABIP CEO Jessica Brooks Woods CEO, MPM, PHR, Jasmine K., and Sue Wakamoto-Lee, CEBS, engaging in thought-provoking discussions on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. Breakout sessions tailored to chapter sizes allowed for in-depth discussions on specific strengths and challenges. A subsequent sharing session provided a collaborative platform for insights gained during the breakouts. The Leadership Growth Panel explored various avenues for growth, featuring the “Presidents Council,” the “Apprentice Program,” and the “Emerging Leaders Program,” showcasing diverse leadership paths. Eric Kohlsdorf provided an update on the Education Foundation, detailing impactful initiatives. Alycia Riedl, NABIP President-Elect, delivered incoming President’s Remarks, spotlighting how NABIP leaders are shaping the future of the association. The forum concluded with a reflection on key takeaways and closing remarks by Stephanie (Records)Sharpless, HSAe Sharpless, fostering empowerment and connections among attendees. Whether seasoned chapter leaders or new to leadership, participants left with fresh perspectives and a sense of community, ready to embark on a year of growth and collaboration. #NABIP #CapCon2024 #EmergingLeaders #Innovation #DEIB

As hundreds of members prepare to head to Washington D.C. next week, may all of us in NABIP leadership remember to introduce ourselves, keep our eyes out for those that may be experiencing their 1st NABIP Capitol Conference and could use someone to take them under their wing. Introduce people! Safe travels everyone!
