Here we go ! 🚀 _________ Yesterday began the 38th International Electric Propulsion Conference in the beautiful city of Toulouse. A lot of great speeches are planned all along the week, and of course, MP²S is part of the journey. Do not miss the chance to meet our partners COMAT, Institute of Space Systems, Laboratoire plasma et conversion d'énergie (Laplace ), Icare and PlasmaSolve s.r.o. who will all be presenting this week. Want to find out more about our MP²S ? Thomas Yung will present the project and the latest advances on Friday 28th during session 10-1. 🛰️ #iepc #electricpropulsion #propulsion

Space Research and Technology
Modular and multitechnological electric propulsion device for in-orbit servicing 🛰️
About us
Introducing the Modular Pulsed Propulsion System (MP²S): the first propulsion device combining a Pulsed Magnetoplasmadynamic Thruster (P-MPD) and a Vacuum Arc Thruster (VAT), to cover a wide range of missions. This projects aims to develop from scratch the P-MPD thruster and to associate it with the flight proven Plasma Jet Pack (PJP).

What if we combined two electric thruster technologies in a single power and control unit? ☄ __________ We are proud to introduce the Modular Pulsed Propulsion System (MP²S), an innovative solution for space electric propulsion. This project relies on the combination of a vacuum arc thruster (VAT) and a Pulsed-Magnetoplasmadynamic thruster (P-MPDT) in a single power and control unit, to create a modular and multitechnologic system. The aim is to offer the advantages of both technologies: long life duration and high impulse for P-MPDT, precise momentum generation and compactness for VAT. This will allow to cover a wider range of missions, from orbit raising and station keeping to attitude control or in-flight formation for instance. 🛰 Since December 2023, COMAT alongside CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique (ICARE & LAPLACE), Institute of Space Systems, PlasmaSolve s.r.o., and EnduroSat has been developing the different building blocks for the P-MPDT. The VAT part is already qualified and has a flight heritage with the Plasma Jet Pack, which is flying on two satellites. Want to know more?
