LISC NY is proud to announce the closing of a construction loan in partnership with Novis Living and Capital Impact Partners. The loan, along with an additional subsidy investment from the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development, will create 48 units of equity cooperative homeownership, 2,383 square feet of commercial space, and 866 square feet of community space. “As we continue to work to address the housing crisis in New York, we must not forget the importance of increasing homeownership in our underserved communities. Homeownership is a generator of generational wealth and economic stimulus that will help to close the racial wealth gap and ultimately make more New Yorkers capable of accessing housing in the long term,” said Valerie White, Senior Executive Director of LISC NY. Please join us in congratulating Dawn Kelly, Founder & CEO of The Nourish Spot in Jamaica, Queens, for being highlighted by Walmart for her participation in the Ghetto Film School’s Entrepreneur Academy. Dawn travels across the country advocating for the challenges faced by small minority businesses and emphasizing the need to amplify their voices and is a long-standing partner of LISC NY who recently provided the signature mocktail for our 2024 Big Apple Gala. Congratulations to Dawn on this achievement and we are proud to continue collaborating with her on policy issues to advance small business growth.
After opening Nourish Spot in her Jamaica, Queens, neighborhood, Dawn Kelly turned to the Wocstar and Ghetto Film School Entrepreneur Academy to help her navigate the unique challenges faced by small business owners, especially Black entrepreneurs.
