  • It’s fantastic to be a part of the transformation at Alderney Water Treatment Works as the construction of the treatment buildings takes shape. We’re excited to continue our work with Bournemouth Water & South West Water on site, led by Steve Mack and his team, focusing on key elements like the mechanical pipework, pumps, and structural steel frames. With the planning stages for electrical installation and energisation of the equipment underway, we’re moving closer to delivering the benefits of these works to the people of Alderney.

Modernising Alderney's water supply for improved quality 💧 We are pleased to say we are making significant progress with our upgrades to our Alderney Water Treatment Works site with the construction of the treatment buildings now well underway. The water tanks are now under testing which is a significant milestone. We are excited to see how the site continues to evolve over the next few months as the specialist contractors from Kier Group work on many areas from the mechanical pipework, pumps, structural steel frames, wall and roof cladding. We are also in the planning stages for the electrical installation and energisation of the water treatment equipment. Find out more ▶️ https://lnkd.in/eRBrEvS8

  • On Sunday, a fantastic group of Kier colleagues - Jess Dyer, Simon Dunwell, Nicola Lonsdale, and Christopher Payne - along with family and friends, took on the 2024 Avove Utilities Yorkshire Water Run in support of WaterAid. For the second year running, we proudly sponsored this event as the race number and finishers' bag sponsor, all to support WaterAid. Held at Swinsty Reservoir in Harrogate, the event saw our team tackle one or two laps (5k or 10k) around the beautiful North Yorkshire landscape. It was a brilliant morning filled with energy and teamwork as we supported WaterAid and our client, Yorkshire Water. 🎉 A huge congratulations to Chris, who smashed the 10k, finishing 4th overall with an impressive time of 41 minutes - a fantastic achievement! Great work, team!

  • At a recent Severn Trent supplier day, our team delivering early contractor involvement works on the Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works project were awarded the Collaboration Award by Capital and Commercial Services Director James Jesic. What Severn Trent said about us…   “The Kier team has shown great collaborative behaviours in a competitive Early Contractor Involvement environment and have been quick to identify opportunities and risk”. The award was presented to our Framework Director Ray Kelly, who accepted the accolade on behalf of the team on site. Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works serves more than 700,000 people in and around Leicester - it's Severn Trent's second biggest treatment asset. It treats all wastewater from the area, including sewage from toilets and 'grey water' which gets poured down sinks and baths and discharged from washing machines. Parts of the treatment works have been in operation since the 1960s. Works are now being planned to upgrade the treatment works and ensure that Wanlip remains fit for the future. #Collaboration #BuildingForASustainableWorld

  • 🌍 Happy World Rhino Day! Earlier this year our team partnered with Severn Trent in a walking challenge to raise funds for Yorkshire Wildlife Park following the birth of their baby rhino, Rocco. 🦏    3,153,595 steps later, with the Kier matched funding for our employees the fundraising total was £3,174. Cheryl Williams Director of Yorkshire Wildlife Park Ltd and CEO of The Wildlife Foundation thanked everyone involved saying, “The Wildlife Foundation is very grateful to the team from Kier Group and Severn Trent Water for supporting their work, especially for Black Rhino conservation, inspired by our own baby rhino Rocco.  Congratulations on the challenge - it really is a small step at a time, or a lot of steps in this case, but a huge leap for wildlife!” With the highest step count of an impressive 401,530 steps and £215 donated Helen Purdy from Severn Trent was rewarded with an unforgettable rhino experience donated by Kier. Helen's highlights include, "Rocco came straight over to the bars to greet us which was lovely. Our keeper chatted with us passionately about the rhinos, showed us photos of Rocco when he was only a few days old and answered all our questions. We were also able to feed the rhinos hazel branches and leaves." Eastern Black Rhinos are the rarest of 3 remaining subspecies. By supporting conservation efforts like those at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, we can help protect these amazing animals. #Conservation #YorkshireWildlifePark #WorldRhinoDay

  • Our brilliant team in Northern Ireland partnered with Destined, a charity dedicated to empowering individuals with learning disabilities, to create an outdoor space where people can learn, grow and thrive. Fast forward 7 weeks. There's now a vibrant and functional area with a newly paved path to improve accessibility, flower and vegetable beds and even a polytunnel so horticultural activities can take place all year. A massive thank you to all the local companies who helped out by supplying materials. Charlene Keenan, CEO of Destined charity, thanked the team saying: "These new outdoor facilities are aimed at reducing levels of isolation and exclusion amongst the most marginalised in our communities and user groups will consist of people with learning disabilities, mental health issues, other disabilities, and their families. This unbelievable project from start to finish has proven to be a big game changer for Inclusivity in Action.“ #Community #Teamwork #Partnership

  • Colleagues from Kier’s project team joined representatives from the Environment Agency, Wiltshire Council, Salisbury City Council and partners to celebrate phase 1 of the River Park scheme with a special site tour. Running through the city centre, the scheme has reduced flood risk from the River Avon to over 350 properties, created 2 hectares of enhanced riverside habitat and 13 hectares of improved space of the community to enjoy. Highlights include: 💚 Building new flood embankments and flood walls 💚 Creating a new channel and wetland area with new boardwalks, play areas and planting 💚 Creating a 50m wide green park through the Central Car Park area to allow for flood waters when needed 💚 Creating over 650m of new and improved cycle routes and 1,600m of footpaths to improve access to the area and encourage more active travel 💚 Replacing the old radial gate with fish-friendly rock weirs and removing other barriers to fish passage now allows all fish species to migrate safely up and downstream the internationally renowned and rare chalk stream. 💚 Enhanced wetland and woodland, with over 600 new trees planted, improving habitat and foraging opportunities for other species, including water voles, otters, bats and birds. Most of the works are now complete, with further planting and seeding due to take place this winter. #Biodiversity #FloodManagement #Wetlands #Engineering #Construction

  • 10 years later we’re back at WWT Steart Marshes celebrating this stunning and dramatic landscape. As well as improving flood management, wetlands play a crucial role in helping store carbon and are a vital place where wildlife, nature and people connect. From sharing stories about making the breach to allow salt water into the then newly created marsh area to getting up close to the nature reserve and salt marsh now colonised with plants and animals, it was a chance to reflect on the long term positive environmental impact of our work and the partnerships and friendships the project shaped. • This morning saw the release of the Kier Group annual results for FY24, reflecting another year of growth. These results demonstrate the strength of our diverse portfolio.   Our division has played a key role in contributing to these results, with particularly outstanding performance in the water sector, underpinned by re-securing our long-standing contracts in the gas sector across Northern Ireland, securing an additional five years with UKPN, and reinforcing our position in the nuclear sector through key progress in the competitive bidding process.   Andrew Bradshaw Group Managing Director for Kier Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks said:   “I’m immensely proud of the contribution that our division has made toward the Group’s strong performance in FY24.   Recent awards in AMP8 bids will expand our water portfolio to a prominent geographical presence in nearly all of the English counties, and we continue to focus on growth across our target markets. Our extension of long-term partnerships in gas and power are significant achievements that highlight the trust our clients place in us. Our success in the nuclear sector further underscores our capabilities in critical infrastructure.   The achievements of our division are a result of the commitment and expertise of our talented team, and I’d like to thank them for their continued hard work and dedication.”   You can read the full results via the link in the comments.
