All eyes are on Chicago this week and it's a great opportunity to highlight one of Chicago's incredible non-profits, Blacks In Green, and their founder and CEO Naomi Davis. As a creator of the 8 Principles of Green Village Building, Naomi is helping her community increase household income via the green economy. And now, with a $10M grant from the EPA, Blacks in Green will be expanding their support across the Midwest! #Justice40Accelerator #LetsCreateTheFuture #Chicago #ClimateJustice

Special shoutout to our grantee partners Doria Robinson, Executive Director of Urban Tilth, Elizabeth Yeampierre, Executive Director of UPROSE, and Naomi Davis, Founder & CEO of Blacks In Green, who yesterday attended the first-ever White House Summit on Environmental Justice in Action! During the summit, the Biden-Harris Administration released detailed progress reports from 24 federal agencies showcasing how the nation's current climate agenda is delivering for communities that have faced longstanding environmental injustices and inequities. Additionally, the summit showcased how federal investments like the President’s Justice40 Initiative – along with new regulatory protections, stronger enforcement of environmental laws, and environmental justice reforms across government – are resulting in cleaner air and water, more affordable clean energy, good-paying jobs, and other real-world benefits that people are experiencing today and will continue to experience for decades to come. We are so proud to be able to say that are grantee partners are not just on the ground fighting to make sure disadvantaged communities have the right to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and live in a healthy community, but they are influencing federal policy as well! #ClimateChange #ClimateSolutions #ClimateJustice

Our Justice40 Accelerator program helps hard-working, but too often underinvested community-based organizations get the funding they need to advance their climate justice solutions, like Alianza Coachella Valley. “With the support of J40 Accelerator I was able to attend the Climate Emergency & Energy Security Department of Energy (DOE) Summit, which was hosted by the Elected Officials to Protect America (EOPA) & DOE Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU). The J40 Accelerator's investment and commitment to cohort members like myself, has allowed me to expand my capacity in applying for funding opportunities that are available to support in addressing the needs of my communities in the Salton Sea Region and Coachella Valley at large.” - Patricia Carrillo, Director of Development and External Relations at Alianza Coachella Valley Alianza’s Environmental Justice Campaign is currently teaming up with Los Angeles architecture firm sl Collective to build an environmental justice hub at the Salton Sea to serve as a center for public and environmental health and economic opportunities. We can't wait to see them reach all of their goals! #Justice40Accelerator #ClimateAction #CommunityEmpowerment #Justice40 #EJforAll ********** The Justice40 Accelerator program is a partnership of Elevate , Partnership for Southern Equity, and The Solutions Project to help grassroots organizations build their capacity, networks, and readiness to access government funding to implement community-designed climate solutions. The Justice40 Accelerator is currently supporting 50 community-based, frontline-led organizations that are ready to tap into the benefits of the federal Justice40 Initiative and successfully advance their climate justice solutions alongside an alumni network of 101 groups.

One of our Justice40 Accelerator cohort three organizations, Philly Thrive has been at the forefront of fighting for environmental justice in Philadelphia for many years. “The J40 Accelerator has been instrumental in providing Philly Thrive with guidance, support, and care as we delve into the opaque waters of federal funding. With their assistance, we have accelerated our growth as an organization, initiated our transition into our own nonprofit, forged citywide partnerships [to apply] for a $20 million federal grant, and did so while safe in the knowledge that we would always have someone to turn to in case we began to feel overwhelmed by the bureaucratic waves rolling over us. We are excited beyond words to be a part of this J40 Accelerator cohort.” - Eric Cesar, Resourcing Coordinator at Philly Thrive We are excited to support them as they raise funds to establish a Climate Resiliency Hub in Philadelphia that will serve as a resource for community climate resilience programs and climate emergency response! Girl Plus Environment (GPE) is a national nonprofit organization created to educate, engage, and empower Black and Brown girls, women, and non-binary individuals to stand up for climate and environmental justice in their own communities. Their Executive Director believes that our Justice40 Accelerator program has already been a significant help in GPE’s ability to apply to federal funding. "Prior to joining the program, I never thought we would have the capacity or even the knowledge and skillset to apply for such funding. With support for the J40A program, we were able to hire a grant writer to help us search for and apply for federal grants. We’re gearing up to apply for the EPA Community Change Grant and also searching for other federal grant opportunities.” - Diamond Spartling, Executive Director at Girl Plus Environment We are hoping that they are able to succeed in securing more federal funds for their Protecting Our Energy Project, which aims to mobilize Black and brown women to advocate for clean, equitable energy policy, thereby cultivating a sense of agency and self-determination within these communities.
