Quality Care Begins in the Lab

About us

The Joint Commission's Laboratory Accreditation Program is designed to improve quality and patient safety in the medical laboratory setting. With deemed status to accredit all CLIA specialties, we accredit many different types of laboratories (hospital, freestanding, IVF, etc.). Our laboratory accreditation program has grown immensely over the last few years as laboratories see the importance of the benefits below: 1. Standardization of lab and hospital standards - Increases cohesiveness & efficiency for compliance and patient care amongst hospital and lab staff, especially with point of care testing. And the ability to opt out of duplicative standards. Having the same accreditor for hospital and lab elevates the lab's role in compliance and helps break down interdepartmental silos. 2. Consistency of lab accreditation survey - Standardized approach each two year cycle with TJC's employed, trained, and monitored TJC lab surveyors. The lab surveyors see 40-60 labs each year, which allows them to share best practices and provide an educational approach. The lab surveyors are all board certified medical technologists and pathologists. 3. Patient centric focus of the Tracer Methodology - Holistic approach to ensure there are no safety or quality process gaps between the lab and other departments. 4. Data Analytics Tools - Used to help labs make more informed decisions with analytics for deeper insight into compliance performance and market intelligence 5.
