📢 We are thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2024 #SmallGrantsFund! 🌳 These dedicated individuals and organizations are leading the way in forest conservation and management. This year, we are proud to support 11 grantees with projects in 10 countries who will tailor Global Forest Watch tools and data to confront deforestation within their forests. We are also celebrating the 10th year of our Small Grants Fund! Over the past decade, the Small Grants Fund has supported over 100 projects across 30 countries, helping local organizations monitor over 850 million hectares of forests. 🌳🌴 Join us in celebrating this year's recipients and learn more about their work here ➡️ https://gfw.global/3RsezNt #forestchampions #deforestation #climateaction #protectforests #community #forestmonitoring #GFW10 #GenerationRestoration #forRainforests #WorldRainforestDay

📢 Analysis on 2023 #TreeCoverLoss data from World Resources Institute and Global Forest Watch is here🌳 📰 There’s positive news from #Brazil and #Colombia where there was a remarkable 36% and 49% decrease in primary forest loss, respectively. 📉 Yet despite these dramatic reductions, the rate of tropical primary #forestloss in 2023 remained stubbornly consistent with recent years. Total tropical primary #forest loss in 2023 totaled 3.7 million hectares, the equivalent of losing almost 10 football (soccer) fields of forest per minute. 🌎2023 data shows that political leadership and strong policies work in reducing forest loss, yet the world remains off track to meet 2030 forest goals. 📢 RADD deforestation alerts have expanded their coverage to mainland Southeast Asia. The radar-based alert system now detects disturbances in primary humid tropical forest in five additional countries: Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. Since the RADD alerts are combined in GFW's integrated deforestation alert layer, users of the integrated layer will receive higher confidence alerts and faster notification of potential deforestation in continental Southeast Asia. More about the layer here ➡ https://gfw.global/4d83VUo Share how you use the integrated alerts layer in the comments. 👇 #deforestation #RADD #SoutheastAsia #forest #alerts

“You can’t manage what you don’t measure...There is no data source that’s perfect for every use case. What really matters is how we’re taking the data that’s available now so that we can act promptly to identify and evaluate where forest loss is happening, how we can engage parties to stop that, and how we can then evolve the incentive structures to better reward behavioral changes we want to see like conservation and restoration." - Anne Rosenbarger of World Resources Institute on the Innovation Forum podcast #gfwpro #sustainablesupplychains #sustainability
TRACT's CEO, Allison Kopf, and Anne Rosenbarger from the World Resources Institute join Ian Welsh from Innovation Forum for an insightful discussion on data collection and analysis in the food and agriculture sector.
