We have just released a new report: Best Places to Live or Work In the United States If You Need to Know What the Weather Will Be Like Tomorrow 2024! We analyzed 832 locations to find out where the most accurate weather forecasts are. The most accurate combination of forecasts and persistence was in Hawaii and Puerto Rico, with an average accuracy percentage of over 75%. The least accurate combination of forecasts and persistence existed across the Upper Midwest, specifically northern Minnesota and the immediately adjacent parts of extreme eastern North Dakota, as well as north central and northeast Alaska. The average accuracy was less than 55% in these areas. Find out why these locations are more/less accurate, and the change in overall accuracy year over year, in our blog: https://lnkd.in/gv2F-8yW #Weather #Wx #Report #WeatherForecast #ForecastAccuracy #WeatherRisk

Weather word of the week: landspout. A landspout is a tornado with a narrow, rope-like condensation funnel that forms while the thunderstorm cloud is still growing and there is no rotating updraft - the spinning motion originates near the ground. It is similar to a waterspout, but over land. Damage from landspouts tends to be EF2 or less. A few landspouts were confirmed in Indiana last week! -NWS #Weather #Wx #Landspout #DYK

Cities are often measurably warmer than their surrounding rural areas, which is known as the urban heat island effect. However, fewer people are aware that the urban heat island effect has a twin counterpart - the urban precipitation anomaly. The presence of urban development measurably affects the amount of rainfall in an area. Out of 1,056 cities studied across the globe, more than 60% of those cities received more precipitation than their rural counterparts. The increased precipitation coupled with impervious surfaces that make up urban environments can be a recipe for flash flooding. Global food prices have seen huge fluctuations in recent years, with extreme weather events, geopolitical conflict, high input costs, and increased demands contributing to the spike. A recent study suggests that levels of extra warming projected to hit Europe by 2035 could amplify food inflation by 30-50%. The United States has seen a steady increase in orange juice prices in recent years due to diseases and extreme weather causing a decline in production. The U.S. saw a 40% drop in orange production over the last 4 years. Learn more about the impacts of climate change on food prices around the world in our ClimateWatch newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gqbUgzdx. #Climate #ClimateChange #Inflation
