"Can it bring me a beer?" Well, Spot can, sort of... 🍻 If only I had a dollar for every time someone asked me that while at a tradeshow or event. But in reality, Spot plays an integral part of getting you a beer. Organizations like AB InBev have looked to increase their uptime and energy efficiency by automating inspection tasks at their plant in Leuven. In the first SIX MONTHS, 150 anomalies were detected and work planned around scheduled downtime. 🕵♂️ With more than 1800 inspections a week Spot is empowering plant technicians to focus on fixing problems, rather than looking for them. Instead of asking yourself the cost of downtime, maybe its time to ask yourself the cost of not automating your reliability rounds... Boston Dynamics’ Spot is visiting the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Ghent site. Dear network, I had an amazing experience today. Kris Sabbe welcomed me in this visit on our site today. Together with my colleague from the LMT, Sander Plasschaert , we got to see the full experience and presentation by Rich Lyons of Boston Dynamics. Technology is advancing in huge leaps. 5 years ago this was sciencefiction. Spot can be used to detect gas leaks, wear and tear of motors and bearings, reading gauges, measuring temperatures, checking open/closed gates, it can detect vibrations and electricity, … even checking on PPE is one of the many possibilities it has and many more are developing as I write this message. Technology is rapidly evolving. Spot is multi deployable and can do jobs people are less accurate in. For example, very repetitive and structured checks, where people can get distracted, Spot does what it was programmed to do. This is the future in front of our very own eyes. In our very own work spaces. What an amazing opportunity it was to be able to join this test. Over the past two days, we were present with our #Spot robot at the IBM Maximo User Group event in Paris. This was an opportunity to demonstrate to #EAM #CMMS (#GMAO) managers the significant benefits of a mobile and autonomous solution like Spot for drastically reducing maintenance costs. For the occasion, Spot was configured as a complete industrial inspection solution with powerful optical and thermal cameras, and an acoustic imaging leak sensor. To top it off, Spot is now interfaced with the Maximo Visual Inspection module enabling automated anomaly detection on industrial assets through its advanced visual inspection capabilities. 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗴 Last week, some of our sites in the UK had a visit from a different kind of four-legged friend. We welcomed ‘Spot’ the robot dog to Cowley Hill and NGF Europe in St Helens, an invention by US company Boston Dynamics. During the visits, we tasked the robot with a series of challenges around our sites, programming it to capture thermal imagery, detect staged air leaks and navigate around the complex environments. For nearly every cement manufacturing process, one of the most critical steps take place within the rotary kiln. Because of this, it is imperative that users understand the condition of the refractory material coating the kiln to extend its operating life, as well as to prevent any disastrous failures. “Good boy, #SpOTTO!" 🐕 A four-legged #robot named SpOTTO recently joined the team at BMW Group #Plant #HamsHall in the #UK. The #autonomous #robotic #dog scans the plant, supports #maintenance and ensures #production #processes run smoothly. Equipped with visual, thermal and acoustic #sensors, SpOTTO is deployed in a number of unique use cases: On the one hand, it collects valuable data for the plant's #digital #twin; on the other, it serves as a #watchdog, overseeing maintenance of production #facilities. “#Virtualization, #automation and #AI are central pillars of the #BMW #iFACTORY,” explains Klaus von Moltke, SVP of #Engine #Production at BMW AG. “#Bold, #innovative application examples like those at Plant Hams Hall showcase the range of possibilities.” Dirk Dreher, Director of BMW Group Plant Hams Hall, adds: “Thanks to the #digitaltwin, we have an enormous quantity of precise data and evaluations, as well as a real-time picture of production processes. It is a nimble robot small enough to use indoors, that climbs stairs and traverses rough terrain with ease. “Spot” was renamed SpOTTO at Plant Hams Hall – paying tribute to the heritage of the #British engine plant. Gustav Otto was one of the founders of BMW and son of Nicolaus Otto, inventor of the four-stroke internal #combustionengine. In 2023, more than 400,000 engines were produced at Plant Hams Hall, which, alongside SpOTTO, also employs about 1,600 people.
