📰 ERTMS-related news 🗞 The International Railway Journal reports : FRMCS moves forward : The race is on for the rail industry to develop a replacement for GSM-R, the radio telecoms element of ERTMS. "IN 2015, GSM-R suppliers informed the rail industry that GSM-R will be obsolete by 2030 and while they have committed to supporting GSM-R until 2030, and in some cases beyond that to 2035 and even 2040, there is a risk that components will cease to be available, and GSM-R will cease to function. 🚦 🚅 ERTMS conference in Valenciennes, France, this April. The International Railway Journal reports: “ERTMS still faces some major challenges to accelerate its deployment in Europe.” THE ERTMS conference this April was opened by Mr Josef Doppelbauer, executive director of the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA), who set the scene. “Make it happen was the theme of this year’s conference,” he told delegates. “We need ERTMS to complete the Single European Railway Area (Sera). New UNIFE Director General, same mission for Rail: Accelerate! 🚆 The UNIFE General Assembly returned to Brussels and I was delighted to welcome Enno Wiebe as our new Director General. Enno brings valuable industry knowledge and customer experience as we look to build on all the progress made so far. Our priorities remain the same with unlocking ERTMS being essential for rail digitalization and seamless cross-border rail travel. We must accelerate deployment with currently 15% (8,600km out of 59,055km) of the revised Core Network Corridors equipped with ETCS. 🏃♂️ Lots to discuss in a packed agenda. More importantly than ever, we need a strong industry voice to help us deliver sustainable and digital rail in the EU! #UNIFEGA2024
