🏆I am thrilled to announce the recipient of the Special Agricultural Prize and Community Prize at the The Mills Fabrica TFSG Final Pitching Session for PALGAE. This event was truly electrifying, as it brought together some of the most promising young entrepreneurs from around the world, as well as key partners such as Thai Union Group PCL., HKRITA - The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel Limited Institute of Textiles and Apparel Limited, PANGAIA, and Innovate360. ♻️In addition to the awards, I had the opportunity to interact with three other impact entrepreneurs who are engaged in the development of valuable ecological technologies. I am extremely fortunate to have friends like you in various parts of the globe, and it was a pleasure to explore Hong Kong with you. ☀️The panel discussion "From Collaboration to Business Success: Fuelling Innovation Across the Ecosystem" sparked significant discussions among industry professionals. As we hit the halfway mark in this crucial decade for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, #entrepreneurship is key to creating a sustainable future for our food system. 🌍 In 2021, European AgriFoodTech startups raised an impressive €9.8 billion (according to DigitalFoodLab). But in the past two years, funding has dropped by over 50%, posing big challenges for food system innovation and mission-driven entrepreneurs. 🔍 With financial uncertainty ahead, it's more important than ever to support Europe’s boldest entrepreneurs in bringing their innovations to life. 💡 A promising result from an independent impact assessment of our three entrepreneurship programmes – EIT Food Seedbed Incubator, EIT Food Accelerator Network, and EIT Food RisingFoodStars – shows that for every €1 invested on 549 promising startups and scaleups since 2018, a wider economic benefit of €6 can be expected over 10 years, growing to €13 over 15 years. 🚀 This also provided key insights on how to maximise the impact of entrepreneurship in the #FoodSystem. 𝗪𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝘁! We’re thrilled to announce the successful closing of MicroLub’s £3.5m seed investment round. We are now officially “spun out” from the University of Leeds and our new life as an independent company has begun. It’s been quite an adventure already and there are going to be plenty more exciting times ahead as we start to commercialise our next-generation protein technologies for replacing fat 🍔, enhancing texture🍦, and delivering nutrients🥦. As this exciting next phase of our evolution begins, we can't wait to see how MicroLub's technologies are going to revolutionize the creation of healthier, more sustainable, and tastier food products using #AlternativeProteins. We would like to say a huge thanks to our lead investor, Northern Gritstone. The NG team, led by Andy Naylor and Thomas Kaye, has been brilliant to work with, and we’re very grateful for all their help and support over the past several months.
