🛡 How safe are the EU's telecommunications & electricity sectors?   This week EU member states, the European Commission and the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) published a report on the cybersecurity and resilience of the telecommunications and electricity sectors.   The report identified several technical and non-technical threats including cyber-attacks and espionage activities, supply chains regarding 5G rollout and renewable energy infrastructure, and physical sabotage of cable infrastructure in the EU.   To help mitigate these and other risks the report selected four main areas for improvement: 🔹 Good practices for mitigating ransomware, vulnerability monitoring, human resources security and asset management; 🔹 Collective cyber situational and information sharing; 🔹 Contingency planning, crisis management and operational collaboration; 🔹 Supply chain security, including follow-up assessments of dependencies on high-risk third-country providers.   The recommendation encourages relevant stakeholders to take action and implement these resilience-enhancing measures as soon as possible.   Learn more: https://europa.eu/!QvrHqT Read the full report: https://europa.eu/!pWGv7Q   #CyberSecEU #Cybersecurity #DigitalEU

⚖️ The fifth annual Rule of Law Report is out! It shows that European countries and the EU as a whole are better prepared to detect, prevent and address emerging challenges, in comparison to the first issue of the report in 2020. Since then, the report has become an important driver of positive reforms: two thirds (68%) of the recommendations issued in 2023 have been, fully or partially, addressed. Yet, in some EU countries systematic concerns remain and the situation has further deteriorated. Also, since the last edition of the report, several EU countries made concrete steps to improve journalists' safety and working environment. However, concerns persist in a few Member States as regards the independent governance or financial stability of public service media broadcasters, transparency of media ownership, the right of access to public documents and the transparent and fair allocation of state advertising.
