  • 🌟 #MeetTheTeam Spotlight 🌟 This week, we're featuring Sharon Jackson, one of our incredible Global Professional Instructors. We asked Sharon, "What differentiates your training program from others?" and here's what she had to say: "If you and/or your organization are passionate leaders who want to make a significant positive impact in the lives of those you serve, their loved ones, and their care partners then this course is for you. Our training is more than just checking a training box requirement or gaining a few tips and tricks. It’s about learning and using approaches and resources which are backed by evidenced based models proven to make a difference. I have had seasoned healthcare professionals say, “I have been to many dementia trainings, and I have never heard it taught this way”. When you invest in Dementia Capable Care training and/or care model, and everyone on the team learns and utilizes this knowledge, you can expect measurable impacts that make a difference for all! I have seen this firsthand in past work experience, and with our partners. They are excited and empowered to see individuals they serve in a different way and unlock their abilities. You can see pride in their eyes when they successfully engage and interact with individuals throughout the day. It warms my heart, and it is what drives me to continue to share this knowledge with others! Many people in my life - loved ones and those I serve - have lived with dementia, but I know they do not have to suffer IF we understand how to support them. If you want to see the difference for yourself – reach out to us. We would love to partner with you." • 🎉🌟 #MeetTheTeam: Spotlight on Sharon Host 🌟🎉 This week, we’re thrilled to introduce Sharon Host, one of our esteemed Global Professional Instructors! Sharon's expertise and dedication are invaluable to our organization. We asked Sharon, "How does the Workforce Leader recognition distinguish organizations?" Here’s what she had to say: "Organizations that provide dementia care and services know that clients and families have many options. The Dementia Capable Care Workforce Leader recognition says the organization went the extra mile to ensure their staff has quality, evidence-based education in dementia. It sends a message that they see the importance of investing in their staff, because they want their staff to be able to invest their best in the people they serve. As someone who has had to find placement for my own mother with dementia, one of the first things I wanted to learn was what type of specialization and/or credentialing the organization had that proved they had the right skills and heart to care for her. Seeing this recognition conveys the message that families can trust this team with the most precious person in their lives. The family can relax knowing that the team: 🔷 Sees the person in care first and the diagnosis second 🔷 Understand the different types of dementia and how it will impact daily functioning 🔷 Understand the different stages of dementia and how to support them at each one 🔷 Knows how to adapt their communication so the person with dementia can feel safe, secure, and valued 🔷 Has the skills to prevent and de-escalate distress behaviors The Dementia Capable Care Workforce Leader recognition means the organization is holding themselves to the highest of standards by ensuring their staff are credentialed in the knowledge and skills needed for quality memory care and services." • 🌟 Meet the Team: Kim Warchol, President and Founder 🌟 This week, we are excited to spotlight Kim Warchol, our inspiring President and Founder. We asked Kim, "Why should organizations invest in becoming a recognized Dementia Capable Care Workforce Leader?" Here's what she had to say: "When building a successful business that provides care to those with dementia, investing in being the best matters. Investing in quality person-centered dementia training prepares you and your team to perform the duties of each role most effectively. ✅ A caregiver will know how to prevent a crisis and keep everyone safe by quickly calming someone who is frightened and resisting a shower. ✅ A nurse will know how to develop trust and rapport to increase compliance receiving medications and treatments. ✅ A therapist will know how to treat people at all cognitive levels, optimizing function, safety, health, and well-being. ✅ All will know how to adapt communication, approach, and activities to engage abilities and support deficits of every dementia stage. A team with this level of expertise can impact outcomes such as falls, use of psychotropic drugs, and hospitalization rates. Investing in training at least 75% of your team in Dementia Capable Care and becoming a recognized Dementia Capable Care Workforce Leader prepares staff with the vital skills stated above and communicates your commitment to being the best to your stakeholders. ✅ Families have choices, especially when paying privately for senior living or home care. They seek the best. ✅ Referral sources want and need partners they can trust to get the best outcomes. They seek high quality partners. Anybody can say they deliver high quality memory care but doing it is the hard part. Invest in being the best and it will pay dividends for you, your business, and those you serve." Join us in celebrating Kim's dedication to advancing dementia care and creating a dementia capable society. 🌿 Visit our website to gain valuable resources and insights on providing dementia capable care: https://bit.ly/3tdecNM #DementiaCare #Leadership #MeetTheTeam #DementiaEducation

  • 🌟 Kim Warchol: Reflecting on a Rewarding Event 🌟 It was an honor to present at the 33rd Annual Aging Well Conference on June 7, 2024, at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Campus. Huge thanks to Mallory Evans, the fantastic conference coordinator, for her kind invitation and exceptional efforts to make this experience memorable for all. I was thrilled to discuss a topic that resonates deeply with many: the importance of having the knowledge and skills to prevent or safely deescalate distress behavior. The packed room showed just how vital this subject is. Attendees were eager to learn how to keep themselves and others safe while maintaining the quality of life for those in care. We delved into the profound impact of unmanaged “behaviors” on individuals in care, caregivers, loved ones, and the broader community. A pivotal moment was when we reframed “behavior” as a normal reaction to distressing situations, sharing techniques to address these reactions effectively without the use of drugs. An attendee highlighted the empowerment she felt upon realizing the importance of being in touch with our own reactions, as "behavior influences behavior." Understanding our escalation is as crucial as observing changes in those living with dementia. Thank you to all who attended, organized, and supported this conference. It was a pleasure to spend time together, and I hope these perspectives and approaches are making a difference. #AgingWellConference #DementiaCare #DementiaEducation

It’s important to adapt this activity for success at each dementia stage.
