CMMC Assessments are coming in 2025 - are you ready? Need some guidance? Here it comes... Recently, the Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity was accepted into two prestigious national networks. Both the The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics and the Academic Engagement Network of US CyberCommand share Boise State’s goals in expanding and enriching the cybersecurity realm. The Academic Engagement Network of US CyberCommand has the mission of enriching the pool of cybersecurity professionals through engaging with academia. The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics aims to build a network of cybersecurity clinics in the hopes of communication to expand cybersecurity for public good. After the 2020 election, Ada County election officials were experiencing threats and demands of voting records due to claims of election fraud. Ada County Clerk Trent Tripple was one of those experiencing this pushback. Since then, Trent Tripple and Ada County’s director of election Saul Seyler have joined forces to create a new tool to counteract unfounded election fraud claims. Ada County now has implemented the tool titled Ballot Verifier. This gives anyone access to any ballot cast in Ada County since 2022. Additionally, Ballot Verifier provides transparency regarding how every vote was counted on its respective election day. On Thursday, April 25th, Scentsy, Inc. (Corporate Office)’s Incident Response Team and the Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity collaborated to host an interactive “Backdoors and Breaches” event. There were 2 two hour long viewing sessions that dove into the decision making process within incident response and more. This event included an interactive tabletop session where students and industry professionals joined forces to tackle real-world issues and threats. Through the table-top experience, students gained the opportunity to ask questions and learn how to think as an incident responder. Discussions hosted by both students and the Scentsy Incident Response Team created a new perspective in the realm of cybersecurity as well as possible cyberthreats. On Wednesday, April 24th, the Idaho Department of Finance (IDOF)’s Financial Innovation Lab (FIL) and the Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity came together to discuss the idea and impact of ransomware and cybercrime. The event provided an overview of ransomware trends, methodologies, prevention strategies, and incident response recommendations. Business professionals and students came together to listen to distinguished speakers such as U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit and Chainaylsis Chief Technology Officer Gurvais Grigg. Additionally, Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity Director Ed Vasko, CISSP and IDOF Securities Bureau Chief John Yaros provided insight. With only being around for a few years, the Cyberdome has managed to create over 100 "ready to work" students! Through our Cyberdome program, student interns gain six months of authentic cybersecurity experience and knowledge. Students work in a collaborative environment to protect rural Idaho.
