  • Across the globe sepsis has been estimated to result in more than 11 million deaths a year[1] and septic shock, the most severe form, leaves nearly 40% of patients dead at hospital discharge.[2] Worldwide about 5-7 million people develop sepsis with very high endotoxin activity.[3] Endotoxin activity can be measured by an endotoxin activity assay (EAA) test and combined with SOFA score has the potential to identify patients with ESS.[3] As your partner, Baxter is committed to identifying sepsis and innovating for improved sepsis management. • Sepsis is a major global healthcare challenge.[1] Recent scientific developments provide rationale for hemoadsorption in patients with sepsis.[2] Adsorption is a process by which molecules are removed from the blood by binding to a membrane or other adsorbing substances.[3] Hemoadsorption (formerly referred to as hemoperfusion) is the passage of blood through a sorbent-containing cartridge or a hemofilter for selective or broad-spectrum solute removal via direct contact of the blood with the sorbent material or the filter membrane surface.[4] Understanding of hemoadsorption provided by the 30th ADQI consensus conference is intended to guide the practice and research in the field.[2] Studies of endotoxin-based hemoadsorption have identified possible target phenotypes for larger RCTs.[2] As your partner, Baxter is committed to identifying sepsis and innovating for improved sepsis management. • Are you interested in learning more about the evolving role of extracorporeal blood purification in optimizing care for critically ill patients? In episode 19 of the Conversations in Nephrology podcast series, host Dr. Kathleen Liu and Dr. Claudio Ronco delve into 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀. Their thought-provoking discussion considers: • Whether recent studies on the impact of early continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in acute kidney injury (AKI) for critically ill patients can be applied to patients experiencing multiorgan failure • How the use of CRRT could be expanded beyond renal support within the context of multiorgan system failure • The potential of current CRRT technology to eliminate inflammatory mediators Click here to listen: https://rb.gy/28sv3a GBU-AT00-240024 V1.0 07/24 #Education #AcuteTherapies #ICU #AKI #CRRT
