Women in Recruitment

The recruitment industry can sometimes be incredibly challenging. With long hours, balancing the needs of clients, candidates, your manager, your team.. the constant negotiation, strict deadlines, it can be a job with a lot of pressure to succeed, and a largely competitive atmosphere.

With every stressful day working in a Recruitment agency, there are benefits ten-fold. Here at g2 Recruitment, our consultants have been offered life-changing financial opportunities; buying houses by 23, paying off mortgages by 30, travelling all over the world, enjoying once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Not only this, but the opportunity for collaboration, team-work, building your own career from the ground up, and managing your own team within the space of a year or two – unheard of in most other industries.

Being personable, hard-working, and organised are the key main ingredients to life-long success in Recruitment. So, with all the perks, professional, and personal, why are there not more women in Recruitment?

At g2, we recognise that Recruitment is a male-dominated industry, and we’re not an anomaly to that. Although our Sales Operations teams, namely Learning & Development, Talent Acquisition, Office Management, Marketing, Contracts, Pay & Bill, are almost all women-led, staffed by a large majority by women, we cannot ignore that our sales teams have less gender-diversity than we would aspire for.

So, as a business, what are we doing to try and rectify this?

  • Although the men and women at g2 receive equal pay for equal work, we recognise that our higher-paying parts of the business such as sales, with commission, are roles mostly occupied by male employees. We strongly urge women interested in recruitment to apply to our roles with the aim of closing the pay gap, and we are actively offering referral bonuses for current employees that recommend a candidate for an open position.
  • We want everyone to feel included on team nights out, days out, company holidays, and of course, day-to-day in the office. The women in our teams are encouraged to speak up, push their opinions and suggestions, and get involved in the planning of such days to ensure that the targets and rewards apply to them too.
  • Every sales person has equal targets and commission structure to ensure that everyone has the same opportunity to succeed here at g2. Working 1:1 with managers and proven top billers, every individual is given the same opportunity to succeed.
  • Junior Management Programme: We understand that as a woman, having a female manager you can relate to goes a long way in pushing your success, which is why we have put so much investment in ensuring that every member of staff at g2 can invest in their future and rise through our career ladder.
  • A philosophy of Meritocracy: we promote based on merit. Once you’ve achieved your targets, you have the opportunity to be promoted and grow your own team, should you wish. You won’t have to wait for someone else to be promoted, or move from the position you’re desperate for. Your career is in your own hands.

We know we’ve got a long way to go until we achieve equality, so feel free to let us know in the comments what you think we can do to improve! Alternatively, feel free to email us at [email protected] with any feedback.
