Why Do I Do This?

Why Do I Do This?

It's a different question to 'What Am I Going To Do Today?' when I first wake up in the morning. For the important things in life; the happiness of my wife, the lives and development of our children, the work that I do, it's the key question for to any task that I'm undertaking which affects these three things.

It's been a journey throughout my life to develop the mindset to challenge what I'm doing and what is the outcome I am seeking - either to get or to avoid. Always challenge yourself and others as to why you're doing a particular task. This task is taking up your time and energy and it's right to understand why. Just being paid to do a job isn't the right answer - you could be adding more value by doing something else for the organisation.

Real focus on the outcome; whether it's a singular or it's contributory to a bigger outcome is essential and you'll feel that 'lightbulb' moment as you realise the part you play in achieving the outcome. Make no mistake, the lightbulb moment is a key contributor to your personal and professional growth, and it could also lead to greater happiness.

In terms of the picture, why did I subject my 44 year old body to bashing on a rugby pitch? So my 7 year old son would see his father playing and (with a tiny bit of luck) be inspired to do the same himself. Present Pain, Future Outcomes.
