What’s Next for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion?
How can Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) be one of the most pressing leadership challenges of 2024? We solved it back in 2020, right? The world watched George Floyd, one of many African American casualties that year, lose his life at the hands of an officer while others stood by. People took to the streets in protest, and corporate America noted what their customers, employees, and other stakeholders were saying and made DEI declarations. New employee resource groups were born, DEI training was all the rage, and companies hired their first-ever Chief Diversity Officers. Remember that?
Let’s fast forward to today. Structural inequalities are still prevalent. Many of those Chief Diversity Officer positions have been eliminated. Polarizing battles over values and beliefs are impacting society more and more each day. As a result, the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) president dubbed 2024 as a “reset moment” for DEI policies.
With the landmark Supreme Court decision on affirmative action and mounting national and global crises, promoting DEI is one of the top four leadership challenges for 2024. How can organizations navigate this challenge in a rapidly changing world?
