What do you want?

"How can you stand not knowing what you want", I always get a kick when I read this line from "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand. It resonates deep with my thoughts and understanding of things around me. I always prefer to stop, take a break, look around, understand and then move forward with a decision, whenever I get stuck on this question of what do I actually want.

We want different things as we grow, which is pretty natural. Our priorities change, our preferences change, and in some cases, our view and expectations from life change. But keeping all this in mind, still I find it essential for best use of time to know what I want and align my work and effort in accordance. We don't live forever, why waste time in going ten different directions when we can achieve something by going in one direction in the best way possible.

It might sound theoretical but in reality we need a direction, a goal, a destination to really move forward in life. So, when you feel trapped, or lost, or stuck, what do you do? My suggestion would be, take a break. Do something which makes your mind relaxed. Spend some time with yourself, understand your needs and desires on deepest level, realize what actually makes you happy and then make a plan, write it down.

It is not necessary to have all the answers but it is very crucial to have an answer to this question "What do you want?" That's where all the good things start from, and that's where you will find an answer to a happy and fulfilled life in personal and professional aspects.

Reading Ayn Rand's writings are good food for thought. People need a purpose in this life, and it is best for you to determine what it is than others to figure it out for you.
