What Comes First? Corporate Social Responsibility or Culture Shift?

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs are becoming more popular across the country. Corporations recognize that a committed social responsibility program is beneficial to the company, company leadership and employees.

However, not every company may be ready to launch a CSR program.

Why?

Well, unfortunately, some companies are in a rut. Leadership is lacking, misdirected or non-existent.

The corporate culture is sick or lacking.

The company may be experiencing high employee turnover. Good employees are leaving. The ones that remain behind are dissatisfied and/or unmotivated.

Many are looking for a new job. They have no intention of staying with the company long-term. Therefore, they do just enough work to keep their jobs until they can find a new one.

Some with plans to stay may be too complacent  to look for a new job.

Of course, because of the high turnover, the company must hire replacements for departed employees. These new employees interact with the unhappy employees throughout the day. They sense there is something wrong with the new employer.

Those new employees wonder how long they will be at the company….

A Culture Shift Has to Happen

A culture shift and the launch of a CSR program can happen at the same time. Company leaders and employees will support a CSR program as they adjust the company culture and most often a CSR initiative can help guide that much needed shift.

Don’t hesitate. Plan for CSR. Fix your corporate culture!
