A Twin Article in Three Scenes - Second Scene - The inexorable Ascent of Information

If we recall, I had tried to write an article in two parts and failed. Even though I was writing an article on two subjects, hence the Twin Article, I had to start with an article that was explaining the rationale of why the two subjects were important and why they were twins.

Now I think I am on flat steady ground. So my reading of the state of play through Noam Chomsky is that science from Newton onwards has lost its ambition of rigorously describing the material world. Science is aiming at just explaining HOW things worked not WHY. Newton's equations of motion explain the interplay of various characteristics of the universe using mathematics. Thus, we have motion, speed, force, etc... that is used as a proxy to understand the material world without describing that material world explicitly in this scientific language.

Now as we all know the material world can be very mischievous.......

I have just been disturbed by the cell phone, and in that foray I see an article that mentions that Consciousness may be bound by Quantum Mechanics. Someone is trying to steal thunder. I knew that I should have written this as a single article.....!!

Right! Where was I? Observe how strange it is. I get disturbed by the phone, then I see an article on Consciousness, I get envious, and distracted from what I am writing about.

It reminds me of something I read about "Free Will". The above experience appears to be a self-perpetuating mechanism of thought, material world, and their interaction. I think I will explore this a bit further at a future time.

Nonetheless let me get to the point............ the material world can be very mischievous.

Newton defined colours as being defined by the spectrum that makes up white light.

Now, in our age, we know that colours don't exist objectively..... i.e. don't exist at all unless there is an observer who would define the colour blue. i.e a character of light only exists in an observers brain!! That the universe for you......!!

A boulder rolling down the mountain flattening tree will as quiet as a church mouse, if the is no animal or human observer close by. The thundering sound is not made by the rock, but by the observer!! Now that is mischievous taken to the nth degree!!

Newton would have been dumbfounded that speed of light is subjective and not an objective character of nature. But the Theory of Special Relativity shows that.

The Theory of Relativity defines Time as part of the fabric of Space-Time and not a phenomenon as is defined by philosophers, Emmanuel Kant and Arthur Schopenhauer.

And now it is becoming clear to Physicists that this Space-Time paradigm does not define the Universe. There is something deeper. It is now flighted in science circles that Information is the fundamental composer of the universe. Again mother nature upsetting the applecart.

However, this is not a sudden realisation. As I mentioned Arthur Schopenhauer and Emmanuel Kant had posited that the Representation as created by our sensual experience is manipulated by our brains utilising Space and Time. i.e. Space and Time are constructs of the brain.

Neuroscientists, notably David Eagleman, argue that Time is a creation of our brain. It does not exist outside our brains. Eagleman has even suggested that certain mental dysfunction is as a result of lack of synchronicity of Time by the brain.

Does this mean that we have to redo the mathematics (which is the progenitor of all of this confusion) to show Information as a fundamental definition of the material world?

What then is Space-Time? Does it become an artefact of the mind. Richard Hoffman has convincingly argued and mathematically demonstrated that for us (humans) to survive on this earth, the mind has decided to develop a construct which does not mirror the material world but lets us efficiently to work, play and live in the material world.

Now I am loving this latest stunt by mother nature. She probably watches these foolish humans who think they know it all and designs schemes to ex[pose their hubris.

I am loving this, I have been working with, on and inside computers for the most of my working life. I vote with two hands that Information is fundamental!!

I am loving this. It may just jettison Entropy from its high pedestal. Entropy had been touted as the creator of directionality of Time. Now I hate Entropy. I found it too difficult to understand when I was studying!! So Information will be my hero.

Maxwell's demon has shown that the Second law of Thermodynamics can be explained by the use of the interchangeability of Information and Energy.

The DNA is coded in Binary Code!

From my point of view Information has a lot going for it. It may even expand the meaning of Artificial Intelligence.

Not so fast though. Remember the article that disturbed me. Many are touting Consciousness as the fundamental definition of the Universe.

So we shall write about the other twin, Consciousness, next instalment.
