She Codes

She Codes

As we emerge out of two years of virtual life, we’re entering in to a time where the metaverse and reality collide, and this is actually a good time to be in technology. And to be a #womenintech is even more exciting.

I started off my career a decade and half back when there were not too many other women software engineers. Those early years I spent learning and living the codes, breathing the algos and navigating the data structure maze were phenomenal – but it was also challenging to be the only woman in the room. Not to mention, we didn’t have the same kind of support from companies that we do today, meaning that many women were leaving their careers early on. I was fortunate to have a few female mentors later on, who encouraged me to stay on my path.

As a leader now, an endeavor close to my heart is to foster the pipeline of women talent into tech. Over the years, I have been elated to see more and more women entering the tech space - mothers, wives, daughters, and sisters accepting project travels, taking up leadership roles, putting in those extra hours reviewing codes and designing innovative solutions. When I look back now, it stuns me how companies went so long without tapping in to the brainpower and insights of half the world’s population.

One of the ways that companies can encourage women in tech is by creating access to high visibility events like Hackathons and Tech Talks. Participation in these not only helps women gain confidence but also fosters innovation in this dynamic domain of technology. Recognizing this need, Arcesium is launching <She_Codes_2022> an external hackathon for women -- click here to register and spread the word to your network of women.

Women in tech are determined to change the lacunae of the last century and the landscape is fast turning into an inclusive environment of collaboration and co-creation. Now is the time for us as well to join hands and help create a better world.
