Securing Water the World Over

Securing Water the World Over

Rajitha’s Journey

The journey to universal water access is paved by the commitment of champions like Rajitha, our WASH hero from the Kebbepura Childcare Center in India. Rajitha’s role as a supervisor extends far beyond the confines of her job description. She is a beacon of hope for the young minds she nurtures. With unwavering dedication, she uses the simple yet powerful tools of clean hands and water to create a positive impact in her community.

Her journey began with a gift—the knowledge gained through water and sanitation training supported by UNICEF. But it was more than just knowledge; it was a calling. Rajitha embraced her role as a WASH advocate, understanding that her influence extended beyond the classroom walls.

Location of Work

In Kebbepura, Rajitha painted the lives of children with hues of health and hygiene. She taught them not only about the importance of drinking clean water but also how to wash their hands properly. Her mantra was behavior change—the bridge between good intentions and meaningful action. As a result, the children in her care grew healthier and happier.

Beyond the immediate impact on the children, Rajitha’s commitment reached the broader community. She championed clean water and clean latrines, ensuring that Kebbepura became a place where waterborne diseases were no longer a burden. Her efforts allowed the children to dream of brighter futures.

Her Work With UNICEF

We celebrate Rajitha—an inspiration to us all. Her work with UNICEF and local partners to champion safe water and sanitation practices in schools is reshaping the lives of children in her community. Together, they strive to change the lives of millions of children, one clean hand at a time.

Xylem Watermark has partnered with UNICEF to improve awareness of water, sanitation and hygiene in some of the most vulnerable communities, with a focus on strengthening WASH protocols in schools and pre-schools in India. Together, we are hopeful that we can change the lives of millions of children and families.
