Welcome to the July 2024 edition of RSE in Focus! This month, we're thrilled to unveil the 2024 programme for Curious, the RSE's festival of knowledge.
Unveiling our 2024 Curious programme!
Topics ranging from menstrual health and true crime to dinosaurs and astronomy will go under the microscope at this year’s Curious - the RSE's festival of knowledge - which runs from 2 to 15 September.
Now in its sixth year, this free festival is a vibrant celebration of learning. It invites diverse minds to come together to learn, discuss big ideas, ask questions, and get curious.

RSE awards over £680K to support exceptional research projects
We are pleased to announce that 48 exceptional research projects have been selected at the spring 2024 Research Awards open call.
Over £680K will enable research across all academic disciplines, with projects including an investigation into the hidden costs of living with disability in Scotland, forecasting the strongest solar flares with physics-informed deep learning, using art to improve custodial experiences, and developing a non-invasive screening tool to assess oocyte and embryo quality.
Armando Iannucci signs the RSE Fellows book
Armando Iannucci CBE was in Edinburgh earlier this month signing the Fellows roll book of the RSE. Iannucci was elected as an Honorary Fellow earlier this year for his work as a world-renowned writer and satirist.

Scottish Education Policy Qualitative Researcher vacancy
The RSE is looking for a Scottish Education Policy Qualitative Researcher who has excellent research and writing skills, as well as a demonstrated background and interest in either Scottish education and/or public policy development and analysis. This would be suited to a postdoctoral researcher, but we welcome applications from anyone who feels they meet the criteria below.
Either full-time (35 hours/week) fixed term of up to eight weeks, or part-time over three to four months, to be agreed with the applicant upon appointment
Flexible working
Hourly rate of £16.78
