On February 9th The Local Engagement Refugee Research Network (LERRN) hosted the “The Voices Rising: Refugee-Led Solutions” webinar. It was a recap of the landmark event hosted in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, which was organized and led by refugees. This conference convened stakeholders to explore sustainable solutions for displaced populations. Panelists Edith Ingutia from UNHCR, Pascal Zigashane, Amin Bolis, Deline Ramiro, and Geofrey Ochala from ILO, with moderation by Rai Friedman.

Senior government officials claim that Bangladesh will not host anymore Rohingya refugees:

  • With aid cuts and stalled support from international relief agencies, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Bangladesh's refugee relief and repatriation commissioner, says that the country is “overburdened” by the refugee crisis which began with the 2017 military crackdown in Myanmar. The statements by officials signal a change in attitude towards refugee hosting responsibilities and could potentially result in a regional upheaval similar to that witnessed with Pakistan's decision to expel Afghan refugees.
