Madonna employee honored by Nebraska Hospital Association

Karla Williams starts her work day promptly at 6 a.m., a habit that started more than five years ago. “I do it because I love to get to know my patients, what daily things they have to do that morning,” Karla says. That dedication and personal touch are among the reasons Karla’s the 2023 recipient of the Nebraska Hospital Association’s Caring Kind Award. Karla’s been a nurse aide in Omaha since 2016 and currently works with acute rehab patients. Her nomination reads in part:

“She makes sure orders are always followed and patients are receiving the best care. She will bring in personal care items like shampoos and lotions, or spend extra time braiding patient’s hair to help make them feel cared.”

Karla’s warmhearted spirit began when caring for her grandmother when she was sick. She transformed that into a nursing career and loves her work family and the teamwork at Madonna.

“I love the culture. I love the nurses I work with. I love the aides that come in. It’s just a good rounding family and how everybody works together as a team, it just makes it so much easier,” she says.

Karla and other Caring Kind award recipients was honored during the NHA’s annual convention. More than 2,800 of Nebraska’s most caring and dedicated hospital and health system employees have been recognized during the award’s 44-year history.
