Kuringgai Chase Fun Run 2024

Kuringgai Chase Fun Run 2024

11 years ago I co-founded with my mentor the late Barry Easy OAM the Kuringgai Chase Fun Run to be the major fundraiser for the Special Olympics Sydney Upper North Shore Program.

Special Olympics is a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community, where every single person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability.

We are helping to make the world a better, healthier and more joyful place one athlete, one volunteer, one family member at a time.

The annual event supports over 200 people with an intellectual disability to participate in weekly sport that otherwise would not be accessible by funding a sports coordinator, coaches and venues.

A feel good community fun run that sees the Special Olympics athletes' running and walking with "Knox Buddies", Year 10 and 11 students from the local Knox Grammar School that has a fantastic social justice program. As described in Jedd's Story participation and the connections made have been life changing for many athletes' and Buddies alike.

Supporting a family member with an intellectual disability can be both uplifting and overwhelming. Participation through the Special Olympics grassroots sports programs provides such an important outlet for athletes and their families to make connections, establish support networks and build life-long friendships.

Add to that a fabulous fun run course for all the family and for all abilities with 2km, 5km and 10km distances through the leafy streets of Wahroonga on Sydney's Upper North Shore. From the challenging and aptly named Kokoda Avenue hill to the magnificent views over the Ku-ring-gai National Park this is a truly special celebration of community participation and connection through sport.

Support my daughter Kate or the Sydney Simmo's Team

Kate normally likes to have up to 10 "Buddies" walking with her ending in with a final run to the finish line for good effect :-)
