Kudos Rechts der Isar Hospital

Kudos Klinikum rechts der Isar !

Important: This post is not about fishing get-well wishes, but solely to honour those who made it possible!

I was hospitalised from 24 September to 20 October in the trauma surgery - partly as guest patient on the eye clinic ward G1b, as well as on ward M0a of the trauma surgery itself.

All caused by a sports accident, more precisely a complete and complicated fracture of the left lower leg slightly above the ankle, also severely affecting it. This led to an emergency surgery a few hours after the accident to install an external fixator and a follow-up surgery 12 days later for implanting long-lasting solutions.

Honouring those who were responsible for the first stages of my ongoing long-term recovery:

  • Team of doctors of the trauma surgery: PD Dr. med Arne Buchholz, Michael Zyskowski and many more - some might be also around here on LinkedIn, only missed to tag them

  • Teams of round-the-clock nurses who, for example, sometimes are responsible for more than 20 patients across wards during night shift, solitary with one person!

  • Physiotherapists who patiently taught me how to walk with crutches and always saved me when my circulation collapsed again in the process.

  • The first aid team at the site of the accident and responsible for my transportation.

  • All the people unknown to me who make the smooth running of the clinic possible in the first place.

Bitter enough that it took an occasion for this post and that I was unaware of many of their daily achievements that cannot be taken as granted! For example a very long and very respectful conversation one evening with an old patient of the bed next to me, who refused a medically urgent hip surgery in the last minute before the scheduled slot, in contrast to his earlier signature and will. As part of the conversation, the patient got actively reminded by the team that the hospital is no prison and the decision is upon him alone and will be respected, but also highlighting the medical options, reasons and odds.

And it is shameful that their service is not even closely adequately recognised financially by us as society!

P.S. Just to avoid misunderstandings: I went through the process as a voluntary member of the statutory health insurance, because I personally reject the concept of private health insurance.

P.P.S. People close to me already knew all of it, of course.
