This week, we continue our series of special features on NorthStandard's Get SET! Safety & Efficiency Technologies, highlighting the innovative solutions of ShipIn Systems and the ECDIS Training Assessment (ETA). We also provide a sneak peek into season two of the future-thinking mini-series within our ‘Alongside’ podcast, hosted by Helen Barden, Senior Solicitor – External Affairs at NorthStandard. Tune in to the first episode now!

In other NorthStandard news, we've been actively engaged in several exciting initiatives over the past few weeks. We've supported this year's International Maritime Organisation's Day of the Seafarer, and we have a gallery video from #Pride 2024 showcasing celebrations from our global offices. Our team attended this year's Asian Correspondents Seminar in Hong Kong, and we are thrilled to share a voting link for our ECDIS Training Assessment (ETA), which has been nominated for the SAFETY4SEA Technology Award!

Lastly, we continue to provide a roundup of the latest industry insights. This includes new advice on security threats to shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as well as maritime-related risks from our China correspondents regarding inspections and monitoring.

Get SET! with ShipIn's FleetVision™

We have chosen to collaborate with ShipIn Systems, the developer of the world’s first visual fleet management platform, FleetVision™. FleetVision™ is the world's first visual fleet management platform, unlocking ship-to-shore collaboration for global maritime fleets and providing objective insights into navigation, safety, security, MARPOL and technical availability.

ShipIn's FleetVision combines deep learning and AI to analyse CCTV footage and transform visual data collected into actionable insights which enables the following:

  • Near real-time monitoring of shipboard activities

  • Automated detection of events onboard

  • People, object and smoke detection

  • Effective remote access control

In an era marked by unprecedented advances in maritime technology, we firmly believe that embracing and integrating new technology is no longer a choice, but a necessity to secure a safer and more resilient future for the shipping industry.

We are pleased to announce our ECDIS Training Assessment (ETA) has been nominated for the SAFETY4SEA Technology Award.

ETA was launched earlier this year as part of our Get SET! portfolio of vessel-based technology – designed to support your crew onboard with enhanced situational awareness that takes vessel safety and operational efficiency to the next level. Vote for ETA ➡

Get SET! to level-up with our ECDIS Training Assessment (ETA)! ✔️

Earlier this year, we launched ETA to empower our members and their crews by identifying any gaps in their ECDIS knowledge. This initiative allows for self-evaluation and provides opportunities for further learning.

We are pleased to report that more than 2,000 crew members have already joined ETA, with positive feedback from our members received.

Ready, Get SET! | ECDIS Training Assessment (ETA) ✔️

To bring the best out of every seafarer, we've innovatively designed ETA by laying out the foundation with the four pillars, which are -

✔️ appraisal ✔️ planning ✔️ execution ✔️ monitoring

Members can also call on our Loss Prevention team’s expertise to help with training and access a range of complementary support materials to plug any gaps or strengthen any areas of uncertainty. Additionally, crew members can retake the assessment as often as needed to ensure they understand ECDIS completely and keep up-to-date on any new developments.

By supporting seafarers to increase their skills, and enabling greater collaboration between ship and shore, we can help minimise risks both at sea and in port, increase operational and financial resilience, bolster trading confidence and develop tomorrow’s maritime talent.

International Group of P&I Clubs Correspondents Conference | Asian Correspondents Seminar (26 - 28 June 2024)

We are delighted to be at this year’s Asian Correspondents Seminar in Hong Kong!

Our Director in Correspondent Liaison and Performance, Neil Watson Watson will be speaking at the International Group of P&I Clubs Correspondents Conference in Hong Kong on 28 June on how correspondents can work effectively with clubs, focusing on managing claims handlers' expectations.

“Our correspondents have a reputation for resolving complex issues, but this isn't always possible. My talk will address the importance of setting realistic expectations with clubs and members to avoid misunderstandings about what can and cannot be achieved.” – Neil Watson

Following the successful format of previous IGP&I Correspondents Seminars, NorthStandard will be attending the Asian Correspondents Seminar in Hong Kong between 26-28 June 2024. Bringing together over 200 club correspondents from region and further afield, delegates will be able to participate in a full programme of discussions and social events, which will provide ample opportunity to engage in debate and expand networks. Pride Month - Celebrating diversity and the LGBTQIA community 🎉

This June, NorthStandard has been celebrating Pride month, promoting the recognition of the LGBTQIA community and supporting the continuous drive for equity and equality.

We care about our people and communities and are dedicated to ensuring we have a workplace where everyone feels respected and can be their authentic selves. Over the past few weeks we’ve been sharing articles internally and having discussions about LGBTQIA and Pride visibility around the world.

We want to pursue the path of being educated, which leads to awareness and understanding – and hopefully greater support and allyship.

We’ve also taken the opportunity to celebrate diversity and the LGBTQIA community by bringing our people together to enjoy Pride events across our global teams! View our gallery below 📽️
