HOW THE SATELLITE INTERNET OF THINGS (IoT) CAN PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN DETECTING FOREST FIRES

Solving a global challenge

Today, new space technologies and the Internet of Things (IoT) via satellite are contributing to a better approach to detecting forest fires and reducing their impact on the environment.

Satellite Internet of Things: faster, more reliable fire detection than current technologies

> With a detection system integrating satellite IoT, the time factor in deploying emergency services is considerably reduced.

> With its constellation of 25 satellites, Kinéis’ connectivity provides unique, global terrestrial coverage, even in black spots. It enables emergency services to be informed of a fire outbreak within 20 minutes, thanks to sensors placed on trees and communicating with the satellites.

How does Kinéis connectivity work?

The benefits of a fire detection system with Kinéis connectivity:

 ·      Reliable, low-power large-scale protection,

·       Early detection of forest fires (Early Fire Detection),

·       Improved risk prevention for Civil Security in the event of natural disasters,

·       Better damage assessment.

A concrete example of Kinéis connectivity in forest fire detection: the ForestSens project

This concrete example of a spatial connectivity application for the Internet of Things provides a glimpse of how Kinéis connectivity can be used to prevent environmental risks and protect the planet.

Expertise and recognition

Faced with the scale and urgency of the mega-fires ravaging the planet, Kinéis publishes a White Paper on the role of technology and satellite connectivity in new approaches to forest fire detection: White Papers - Kinéis

On the strength of its expertise, Kinéis has just been named the winner of two projects in a Call for National Interest (AMIN), launched by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion.

Through the AMIN for the Panoptès project, Kinéis is consolidating its expertise and leveraging its spatial connectivity, which is complementary and essential to global solutions. Solutions in which technological complementarity and spatial IoT play a key role.
