Here's the truth about nearbuy.com

Before I entered third year of college, I reached out to as many as 25 companies, asking them to offer me an internship that wasn’t related to my area of proficiency i.e. writing. Some never replied, some politely refused, some were outrightly condescending about me being a misfit.

These were big companies, which possibly could do well with a hungry intern looking at expanding his skills desperately.

But that call never came.

A few months later, I landed a job at nearbuy.com. I knew a bit about how online commerce worked but nothing about data & analytics, leave alone Project Management.

But I was thrown into the deep end of the pool. I was provided the mentorship, the opportunities to fail and discover, the time and backing to pick up new skills on the job.

Here was an organisation that told me every day that it didn’t matter what I had done in the past. What mattered was that I was eager to learn.

In the course of the last year and a half, I discovered myself and found out how far I could stretch. I made friends, learnt about life, and saw myself grow up from a guy who could “just write” to one who could do much more than that.

Today is my last working day, and I feel a sense of overwhelming gratitude for the time I got to spend at this place.

People often ask me why I am such an unabashed lover & promoter of the company I work for. And I tell them that it’s because the company put faith in me and salary in my bank account when no-one was quite committed to.

And I know for a fact that I’d be lesser of a person if the last year and a half didn’t happen the way it did.
