Heaton Depot [Newcastle]

RCA has been involved with major rail projects over the years; from station enhancements to bridge reconstructions.We understand the meaning of tight deadlines, and through innovative design, have successfully completed major projects throughout the UK.

Heaton Depot Brief was to keep the rail depot operational at all times, prop the existing building, remove the old train wash [image above], and replace with new automated train wash within a completely new underground pit.

Major part of the scheme was to sheet pile the existing building, and then break out the old pit down to a level ready for the new pit construction [image above]

Once the old pit, had been broken out and leveled the new pit construction took place which involved major steel reinforcing [image above]

Upon completion of the pit the existing building was refurbished [image above]. It was a very technical project which required skill and care from all involved especially working within the tight constraints of the site and a rail environment.
