X44 Vida Carbon Racing – the Extreme E team established by Formula 1 driver Sir Lewis Hamilton – not only won the Championship title in Season 2, but also the Sustainability Award in the 2022 Extreme E Count Us In Challenge. The award is given to the team whose fans took the most sustainable steps. X44 Vida Carbon Racing was followed by the XITE ENERGY Racing and NEOM McLaren Extreme E teams in second and third place, respectively. Read more

Uganda’s AFRIYEA Golf Academy at Toro Club Uganda has scooped the Special Recognition Award at the 2023 Golf Environment Awards. The awards are held to recognise sustainable efforts across nature conservation, turf grass, waste and water to protect habitats and biodiversity while maximising enjoyment of the sport. Read more

Volleyball World created a trophy entirely out of recycled plastic from the world’s beaches for its Beach Pro Tour championship winners. The unique trophy highlighted the impact pollution has on the world’s beaches and oceans. Over 11 million metric tonnes of plastic enter the water each year, according to the Ocean Conservancy. Read more

Windsurfer Sarah Jackson has left the English south coast behind for Spanish beaches after she told the Guardian that training near her home was like “surfing in a sewer”. Jackson has won two world championship silver medals and is currently ranked second in the world in her slalom discipline. Before relocating to Tenerife, she trained near Hayling Island. Data from Southern Water shows that untreated sewage was released into the nearby Langstone and Chichester harbours for the equivalent of 102 days in 2021. Read more

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) has appointed Secretary-General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA) Hamad Ali Al Athba as a member of the ISSF’s Sustainability Committee. Read more
