From the ideas you think of to the product you hold: How PARKSIDE tools are made

Ever wondered how PARKSIDE tools make their way from a simple idea to the shelves of stores? The development process begins with a spark of inspiration and the initial product idea undergoes an evaluation process to determine its feasibility and market potential. Once validated, it moves into the development phase, where detailed product renderings are created, defining the functions and qualities of the new tool. Other Lidl countries are involved when the first product sample is ready. The Purchasing department at PARKSIDE plays a central role in this development process; "We decide on product range and pricing in cooperation with all relevant departments. This ensures that the decision-making processes are short and effective." explains Thorsten, Division Manager International Purchasing at PARKSIDE. He explains that the journey from concept to market involves several key stages, including briefing, negotiation, delivery planning, and promotional scheduling. 🛠⚙

Each product undergoes rigorous internal and external testing to ensure top quality at the best possible price. "DIY customers are very selective. They test the product themselves and often provide constructive feedback. We utilize all possible channels, such as Facebook and returns, to hear customers' opinions and optimize our products accordingly." says Michael Root, Purchasing Manager at PARKSIDE. Market research plays a pivotal role in product development. The Category Insight Management Team at Lidl International provides data on top-selling products and many suppliers also provide shopping data and recommendations.

"Flexibility is crucial in purchasing. Although it usually takes about two years from idea to store launch, we also react spontaneously to high consumer preferences and emerging trends. For instance, we quickly adopted trendy colors for our plant pots based on market research," Michael adds. Sustainability also plays a key role at PARKSIDE. The plant pots were not only offered in different colors, but they were also made from recycled materials and were first tested on the market to see if customers had an interest in more sustainable products. Now with the Ecoline, PARKSIDE is offering a whole line of products made with more sustainable practices in terms of the sourcing and selection of materials, the certification of production facilities, and adhering to the Supply Chain Act to comply with legal standards to create more transparency throughout production. 🌳🔍

Adapting products for local markets is one of the final steps in product development and each country selects items from the assortment independently.  "As part of International Purchasing, we often take a close look at international markets to understand their needs and trends. We also visit our suppliers all over the world to develop new concepts.” Thorsten adds. PARKSIDE has developed multiple lines of tools and product innovations in a short time. A core part of this success is the comprehensive product development cycle, backed by testing and feedback adaptation processes. Central to this process are team members like Michael and Thorsten, connecting all the departments that help bring PARKSIDE tools to the shelves. 💚
