Fostering a more inclusive company

Fostering a more inclusive company

Less than a year ago, I joined the Electrolux Group , drawn by the opportunity to express my thoughts freely and authentically. One of the key reasons I was excited about this role was the company’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion (D&I).

Creating an inclusive environment

Upon joining the São Carlos plant, I encountered a vibrant community of like-minded individuals who shared the vision of a workplace where everyone could be their true selves. We believed that equal access and fair treatment were essential.

This brought me considerable peace of mind, as it could have posed a challenge to my integration, especially since I was dedicated to fostering a more diverse environment.

During my initial month, I familiarized myself with the various initiatives led by groups of leaders and supporters dedicated to Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), and collectively, we outlined the subsequent steps. To bring this vision to life, we took some meaningful steps:

Raising the flags

First of all, we proudly raised the “Misture-se” (our regional D&I committee) and LGBT flags at the São Carlos plant. These symbols demonstrate that we literally raise the flag against prejudice and that we value people as they are.

Colorful crosswalk

Secondly, we painted a crosswalk in the vibrant colors of the LGBT flag. This simple act visually reinforced our dedication to a diverse and inclusive culture. It was a special moment for everyone involved, especially our affinity group members.

Progress and challenges

Our initial actions sparked conversations. Employees felt more comfortable discussing diversity openly, creating a lighter and more welcoming atmosphere. However, like many companies, we recognize that we have more work ahead. In São Carlos we say that the targets challenge us, but our goal is not just to meet them, but to achieve representation within the factory that mirrors the diversity outside its walls.

My personal mission

As a white, straight man, I acknowledge the privileges society affords me. Yet, I also carry my own life experiences — victories, setbacks, and lessons learned. Regardless of where we go, our relationships define us. We can decide the legacy we leave behind, and I’ve chosen to make promoting diversity and inclusion my life’s mission, wherever I am. I’m grateful to everyone who contributes to a better, fairer world!
