Featured Lab Fridays: Portland

Our Portland Calibration Lab is a distinguished facility that stands out in the realm of calibration services. With an ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, the lab offers a handful of flexible service options, including in-lab and on-site calibration services as well as local pickup and delivery where available. Their calibration capabilities include both common and unique disciplines that cater to the lab’s customer base in the semiconductor, electrical, alternative energy, and bioscience industries.

Through the work they perform, the team at the Portland lab is not only bound by their technical expertise but also by a shared dedication to customer satisfaction.

“Everyone gets along great here,” explains Michael Gettle, Service Manager in the Portland facility. “Our team is very focused on customer service and delivering reliable work on a timely basis, along with a great attitude.”

The Portland lab’s main capabilities include electrical, torque, physical and dimensional, pressure, temperature, and humidity. Their torque capabilities allow the team to calibrate torque up to 1,000 ft. lbs., and they have a humidity chamber to assist with humidity calibrations. But as Gettle points out, the lab has a handful of capabilities that make it stand out from others.

“We are the only Transcat lab able to calibrate Stahlwille torque cells, which can get up to 1,000 Nm. We also have a vision measurement system that can calibrate dimensional safety probes, and we recently received a Mitutoyo i-Checker to automate the calibration of dial and digital indicators.”

Other distinct capabilities of the Portland lab include durometer calibrations, surface plate mapping, and infrared temperature calibration up to 500˚C.

Through it all, customer service remains a top priority for the Portland lab. Aspects like continuous training have led to positive feedback for everyone from service technicians to drivers. And it’s reasons like this that have kept customers coming back to work with the team.

“Customers like working with us due to the approach we take to customer service,” says Gettle. “We do our best to keep turn times low and keep our techs trained. We also look for potential challenges before they become a problem. And if something becomes a problem, we fix it quickly.”
