Featured Lab Fridays: Palm Beach

Founded in 2022, the Transcat Palm Beach Calibration Lab is an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited general-purpose facility that offers many essential calibration services and capabilities. The nearly 10,000-square-foot location is one of the newest Transcat calibration labs and serves the South Florida area as well as other parts of the state. With in-lab, on-site, and pickup and delivery options, the Palm Beach lab provides flexible services catered to meet specific customer requests.

Offering a handful of calibration disciplines, one of the lab’s main capabilities is dimensional work, which includes using a Labmaster Universal Length Measuring system to perform highly accurate and reliable dimensional measurements. Additionally, the lab provides humidity, pressure, temperature, torque, and electrical capabilities.

“We have pressure capabilities from ±1 inch of water to 10,000 psi, torque capabilities from 5 in. oz. to 600 ft. lbs., and electrical capabilities including 1.1 GHz for oscilloscopes, 7.5-digit benchtop DMMs, and high-voltage measurements up to 100 kV DC,” says Jordan Champion, Senior Calibration Technician. “We can also perform temperature calibrations from -40 to 660°C, and humidity calibrations using our Thunder Scientific 2500.”

While the majority of work at the Palm Beach location is through their in-lab services, the lab has seen an increase in on-site work, which has helped expand their offerings across the state, including parts of the Gulf side of Florida.

“At this point, we can pretty much service the entire state of Florida,” says Megan Champion, Lab Administrator. “We’ve had significant growth in our on-site business over the last year, which has helped expand our service area quite a bit.”

“There’s a big aviation and aerospace presence down here in Florida, which has been a big driver for us,” Jordan explains. “Businesses within those industries tend to prefer on-site services due to the nature of their work and the type of equipment they’re using, so that’s been a big focus for us.”

In addition to serving the aviation and aerospace industries, the Palm Beach lab has worked with other highly technical markets in the region, including the pharmaceutical, biomedical, and electronics manufacturing industries.

“We’ve seen a lot of customers come back to us for different reasons, whether it’s that they enjoyed their service or liked working with their technician, so that’s been great to see,” says Megan.

“I’m really proud of the turn times we’ve been able to deliver,” adds Jordan. “Because we’re a smaller team, we can be a little more flexible and adaptable to whatever priorities are needed. We all have the knowledge and skills to jump in when needed and get things done quickly without sacrificing our quality of work.”

Since opening in 2022, the Palm Beach Calibration Lab has maintained a customer-centric approach to their work, emphasizing transparency and forming personal relationships with their customer base.

“We want to have a personal relationship with every customer and communicate as openly as we can with them,” explains Jordan. “When you grow in size, sometimes that personal touch can go away over time. But that’s not the case with us down here, nor is it the case with Transcat as a company, and I think that’s something that’s truly unique to both our team in Palm Beach as well as with Transcat.”
