Facilitating cross-cultural connections

Written by Nyasha Mugavazi

January marked the end of Omek’s first partnership with the ever inspiring Foot Locker

From September 2022 to January 2023, Omek collaborated with LEED, Foot Locker’s $200 million commitment to the Black Community, to produce The Cultural Experience. The Cultural Experience was designed to facilitate authentic cross-cultural connections between Foot Locker’s communities through education, engagement, and imagination. It took place over the course of 5 months with 5 events the themes ranging from Celebrating Global Black Identities to Advocacy and Sponsorship

The Cultural Experience took participants on a carefully curated journey, expanding their learning and growth each step of the way. The program ended with a session that provided space for the company’s communities to imagine a future they wanted, but with a lot of enthusiasm from participants and continuing commitment from Foot Locker’s leadership, this is only one chapter of this exciting journey in Foot Locker’s evolution.

Each of the sessions was either hybrid or online to maximize engagement across Foot Locker’s global communities, resulting in an average attendance of 495 people per event and 67% attendees coming to more than one session. The attendance rate came as no surprise when we reviewed our monthly survey, where the most frequently used terms to describe The Cultural Experience were ‘informative’, ‘enlightening’, and ‘inspiring’.

Omek continues to work closely with dynamic brands that seek to be global leaders when it comes to maintaining inclusive, empowering work cultures.

“We’re interested in addressing these challenges from local perspectives, not copy and pasting solutions from one place onto another. Omek really helps brands find solutions from their local perspective and with an awareness of their unique company culture.” - Kemo Camara CEO & Founder, Omek
